Hey everyone! I was just wondering what hay everyone’s bunny is eating. When I got my bunnies (at the shelter), they were eating an oat hay mix. For about 2 months I kept buying the hay from the rescue (the oat hay mix). After that, I fed them some orchard grass, and then I invested in a bale of timothy, which they’ve been eating for the past year (the bale has lasted an entire year, and there is still at least 5 flakes left)!

Today my mom bought a bag of orchard grass, because they seemed to like that. I just gave them a little to try out and Rumpus went crazy for it, Mocha still stayed with a pile of timothy though.

So everyone, please answer this poll!!!

YAY Mocha – I’m not ‘late’ this time!

When I first got Henry, I literally had to try every single hay that was available before we found one HE ‘liked’! It turned out to be Oxbow’s Timothy. We went almost a year (not quite) before he started eating his hay – we were almost frantic! Dam bunny!

I use orchard grass since it does not bother my allergies as much as the other grass hays.

My husband is allergic to timothy hay, and Porky turns his nose up at orchard grass and oat. So, I have to order him organic meadow grass. The most expensive and hard to get hay.

Who else’s bunny chooses the expensive stuff over, everything else? Mocha and Rumpus will ummm, tollerate the farm fresh hay (after promising them a treat after they finish it), but they much prefer the expensive Oxbow and storebought stuff.

Also, Mocha only chews up my most expensive things (typical diva princess….). She goes for the old oil painting with gold carved frame, over the brown wrapping paper Rumpus devours…………

My bunnies go absolutely bananas for Living World Meadow Hay, I get it offers amazon.
I also ordered Jojos Best Timothy Hay, which they also enjoy (they eat it better than the oxbow, kaytee, etc.) I also got it on Amazon, and found the hay strands to be suuuper long.

My buns seem to like coarser hay.

I use Oxbow timothy. I buy a 50 lb bag and it lasts a couple of months. My bunnies eat a lot of hay since they are only supposed to have about a 1/2 cup pellets a day. Right now they are eating about a cup though since i havn’t been able to invest in the 50lb bag for a while, I have to stick with the crummy pet store hay

My bunnies seem to prefer the leafier bits of hay, but they are fine with the coarser bits.
They share 1/4 cup pellets 2 times a day, and they share 7-8 cups of veggies every day (they can handle it). They eat maybe 1/4 flake a day (as long as I mix some dried herbs in it to make it smell yummy).
They get 2-3 treats a day (sometimes storebought, and mainly fruits and vegetables).

I just switched my bun from grass hay to oat hay, and he seems to eat much more of the oat hay! Although he does lose interest in it after a day, as long as I keep adding a bit of “fresh” hay on top, he loves it!

My two are on farm fresh brome hay. I get it from a local horse owner / boarder. It comes in oh, 40-60 lb bales. It only lasts a few months with just two. They get lat/orchard sometimes as a treat hay. The oxbow boxed hay was just too expensive with how much they use.

My bunny eats Timothy, orchard grass, botanical hay, organic meadow hay, and every once in a while, she gets a tiny sprinkling of alfalfa on top of her hay. The Timothy hay is American Pet Diner Gold, the softer, second cutting. I have also gotten Zupreem Timothy in the past, which smells nice and fresh, but it sometimes has a lot of brown in it. The orchard, botanical, organic meadow and alfalfa are from Oxbow. I did get Small Select Timothy once and like it, but it’s expensive. When I’ve tried Kaytee or other brands, I haven’t liked them much.

Mine eat Oxbow Timothy. Sometimes I throw in some Oat or Orchard grass for a treat.

A friend of mine recommended Oxbow timothy hay when I got Sawyer. He loves it.
