Any advice would be great! I just picked her up an hour ago, and the receptionist didn’t tell my anything. =( I asked her about pain meds, and she said that Lucy would be fine, normally they don’t even care. But I know Lucy, and she’s not eating yet, or drinking. She’s potty trained and already peed on the side of her cage that she normally sleeps on. I understand some of this is normal, because the drugs are wearing off, and she doesn’t feel quite like herself. But my question is, How long should I expect this behavior? When will I get my normal loving baby girl back? and is there any advice on how to go about recovery? Thanks! Anything would be appreciated!

For now keep her quiet and offer her favorite foods.

Tomorrow or this evening-I would say call the vet and get pain meds. Their is pain control given during surgery and that covers you for 24 hours, so you won’t need them until tomorrow, but I would hands down recommend being firm in a request for 2-3 days of pain meds. It’s a big surgery and rabbits don’t tolerate pain well. Some vets do give it standard, and some don’t; I’m a firm believer that they should always get it. If they don’t need it you don’t have to give it, but your in a pickle if they need it and it’s a weekend!

Our vets gave us 5 days worth of pain meds for the girls and 3 for my boy. We were told to give it to the girls for two to three days and “if needed” after that, with Moshi it was 1 day and “if needed” after that. Best to have it on hand. A bunny in pain is less likely to want to eat.

My girl and boy were de-sexed about a month ago. My boy was on pain meds for three days, my girl for seven. They also both got an anti-inflammatory for seven days. I agree with the others–ask for pain medication. If it were a neuter, I could maybe see not needing it, but for a spay, I think pain medication is the best way to ease her into her new phase.
