I’m not sure if its called a menses or in heat. But my rabbit got to the point she was digging for ever and built a nest but she is not spay nor does she have a mate. I was wondering how often this happens

I believe they only go into heat when being with a buck (they are induced ovulators).
Get her spayed when she reaches sexual maturity or asap. How old is she??

            HI Mocha
She is a year and 2 months. I plan to get her spay this spring when fiancial issues are solved right now. I can only afford her current necessities . She does this digging thing at least once a month for a few months it was for a few days but this month she went all out and it lasted ALL month nad then she built a nest and kept tending to it . She eventually stopped and went back to normal once I got rid of the nest. I wasnt sure how often this should happen.

Rabbits do not “go into heat” or have “cycles” – they ovulate when mated, so can get pregnant year round and even directly after pregnancy (hence, breeding like rabbits).

What you are describing with the building a nest and tending to it is called a false pregnancy. Intact female rabbits can have their instincts triggered (usually by close contact with a male, such as being able to scent them) and pull fur/build nests and do everything they usually would do if pregnant. It’s very stressful on them, but I am unsure how to prevent it without a spay.

                okay stickerbunny
So basically you are saying this can happen at any random time, and is more likely to happen when she smells the scent of a male ? I’m not sure how she would the only logical way for her to smell a male is because she is directly under a window so that the cool breeze blows in my room gets warm during the day.

Stickerbunny is correct. Without the presence of another bunny, hormone fluctuations can trigger a false pregnancy. According to Medirabbit.com, the same hormone fluctuations can ultimately lead to other reproductive-related issues. Spaying appears to be the cure.

A female can’t get pregnant without a male, if that’s what you mean.

She doesn’t HAVE to smell a male to have it triggered, that is just the most common cause.

And no, rabbits cannot asexually reproduce. They need a mate of the opposite gender. If she’s not around a male, she’s just having false pregnancies and no worry about babies.
