I wasn’t sure where to put this question I hope I have it in the right place. Since I have my 2 rabbits bonded and living in the same room Kilala has really been dropping a lot of pellets around the room. Its really tiring getting the regular vacuum out to clean everyday and I was wondering if anyone uses hand vacuums and could recommend one? I know that Dyson makes one and  is really nice but I don’t want to spend too much money. I do have a regular Dyson vacuum I love.

Thanks in advance to any ideas!

For just poops, try a small shop vac — way cheaper and easy to clean.

I second the shop vac. Great for cleaning up small messes.

Sorry Sindriona but I FIRST the ‘expensive’ Dyson cordless hand held stick ‘animal’ vacuum.
Being 47 and having bought a LOT a vacuums over the years, mostly cheap cause I couldn’t consider (afford) the branded expensive one’s, I finally bought my first Dyson barrel vacuum about 6/7 years ago and I was ‘won over’!
Only AFTER getting Henry (so 1 and a half years ago) we ummmed and ahhhed over a cordless hand held vacuum, so did our research and then saved and saved and saved even more and about 2 months ago we splurged and bought the Dyson cordless hand held ‘animal’ and it is brilliant – for everything! And I expect (HOPE???) it will last a lifetime as to replacing some (not all) vacuums every couple of years.
I use it with the stick for floor vacuuming (carpet and hard floors), and without for handheld dusting and sucking up everything, even my comforter on the bed! It gets ALL of Henry’s hair!
I know it’s a lot of money (I paid $550 Aussie) and at the time I was mortified at myself. But 2 months later – best money I ever spent!
Just be warned (it hasn’t been a problem for me – yet???) it only lasts 20 minutes before needing to be recharged. So I use my barrel vacuum for cleaning the whole house and use the hand held for quick every day vacuuming, clean-ups and dusting.
Gee, I hope I haven’t made your decision harder??? But you did ask…..

              Lol!

I would LOVE to get that Dyson you got AH but hubby says no. He is the king of saying no hehe. Darn husbands. I do have a regular Dyson I absolutely love. It was the best money I ever spent ($400 U.S) on a vacuum and I have had mine 8 years. If something ever happens to this one I would definitely purchase another Dyson even though they are expensive.
I will look at the small shop vacs. We do have a large one of course I would rather use the Dyson over it.
Thanks again everyone on your input I really appreciate it!
                AH enjoy your Dyson!

I have the Dyson one and the battery of something recently went out and the battery was $75!!!!

So I went out and bought a Shark Pet Perfect 2 from Target and I like it – I don’t use it for my rabbit because I have a very old upright Dyson that I rigged up for this but if I didn’t have that, I think the Bissell one would be just fine. I use it to clean the bird seed that Birdy cannot seem to keep in his cage – he’s messy.

I do think I am missing some pieces for the Dyson machine though – my husband had it his mini storage place and brought it back minus some parts…

I didn’t know you had a bird Sarita. May I ask what kind it is? I have never owned a bird before but love looking at them in the pet shops and I feed the wild ones.

I thought AH said she hadn’t used her new Dyson because she didn’t want to get it dirty?!

That DAM husband used it to clean up after that DAM bunny and got it all dirty on the inside! LOL! So I ended up using it JR and it is the ants pants, but I still can’t get over that we spent that much on a vacuum, especially for a bunny! But yer, I so get just getting something more reasonably priced for quick poopy clean ups Sindriona – I still can’t believe my hubby came to the party (HUH? I reckon he’s gonna hit me up for something outrageously priced soon – there’s always a catch in my household!). LOL!

Oh gosh! I love birds too! Before I got dog’s and then that DAM bunny – I used to have a free roam budgie. One of the most wonderful pets I have ever had! But it’s true, they are messy with their seed. But no where near as messy as a bunny! Hay & fluff EVERYWHERE!
(and their (budgie) poops are tiny and dry within seconds – easy to clean up with a tissue).

Actually Sarita, that’s one of the reasons we went for the Dyson – you can buy and replace every single part. I know $75 may seem expensive to replace the battery pack but we decided it was cheaper than buying a whole new vacuum. I can’t begin to tell you how many vacuums we have thrown out over one broken part that can’t be replaced. Why we plan (HOPE???) this this vacuum will last the rest of our lives.

Oh and Sindriona – we paid $400 ($399) for our original Dyson too about 7 years ago.
And now that our new one is ‘dirty’ (ha ha ha), yes, I enjoy using it – thanks!

PS – LEL is buying me the ‘pet attachment’ for my birthday so I can vacuum Henry!

                          LOL!!!!!

(it was about $100 – and I didn’t dare ask the hubby, ha ha ha ha! But good to know it’s available. Maybe one day???? Lol!)

Sindriona, I have a cockateil – I’m guessing he’s about 10 or 11 years old – I got him from a friend of a friend when I moved to my house which was in 2005 so I think he was a few years old then. There are lots of rescues too that have birds for adoption. I’ll be honest, he’s very very loud and times and you cannot shut him up when he’s acting out most of the time. He’s very very cute, but the screeching will make you insane.

I also feed the wild birds…and the squirrels and field mice and rats too. I get mostly BlueJays and Doves (more White Wings than anything) and I think they scare off the little birds which are the birds I enjoy watching the most :~(

AndHenry – I totally understand about the replacement parts! There is a Dyson shop near me and I can take it there to have them look at it – unfortunately their hours are only when I’m at work – Mon through Friday from 8am to 4:30pm and they are not open on the weekends – so inconvenient. I have had quite a few Dyson’s over the years including the one I use to clean the whole house now and am always amazed at all the crap it picks up each week when I vacuum….I’m pretty OCD about cleaning my house and I cannot understand where all that stuff is coming from in my carpet each and every week – it’s a total mystery to me.

AH I think budgies are really cute. I know what you mean about there being a catch when it comes to the household. hehe

Sarita a friend of mine had a cockateil. I know how noisy they can be. We lived in Florida and had a hurricane and I guess he got displaced and showed up on her apartment doorstep. She went around the neighborhood looking for his owner and never found them. She would put him back in his cage sometimes and cover it. He seemed to quiet down afterwards. He was really cute and seemed to really like her.

We don’t have squirrels here at this house being we don’t have mature trees but I did enjoy feeding them. Most of the birds I do get to come when I feed is the little finches and titmice or titmouse type birds oh and sparrows. We just had a nest of wrens on our front porch this year for the first time.

Tommorow before I take the bunnies to the vet we plan on looking at mini shop vacs and handheld vacs. We shall see what I get.

Well I ended up getting a small shop vacuum. It was $25. Its small and has a handle for carrying and has attachments. I like it but its pretty loud. So my plan is to use a regular vacuum once a week and them use my shop vacuum for my small cleanups.
Thanks again everyone for your advice and input!
