        Hello everyone!

I may have a big problem! I was petting Binky when I noticed a small black, shiny bug crawling on his fur. Before I could react it crawled deeper into his fur. I have been trying to examine him by using a comb or looking in his fur but he won’t let me. I put my hand near him and he lunges at me to scare me off. He never does this.

I have been scaring myself all morning by googling what bugs can be on a rabbit and I hope its not mites or anything that can hurt him. Perhaps he’s lunging at me because his skin is irritated? Is there perhaps something I can bathe him in to get rid of bugs or do I  have to know what specific bug it was?

Also we just moved into my grandmothers house and she has cats and a dog. I didn’t think anything of it and let them interact with each other so Binky wouldn’t be so scared.  None of the other pets are itching but they do go outside and Binky lives in my room.

If there are any steps I can take to try and help my Binky, I’m trying to avoid vet bills and don’t have enough to take him for a few weeks anyway. Thank you for reading!

It could be a flea, they can be shiny and cats/dogs often bring them inside. Either way mites/fleas, something like Revolution or Advantage (NOT FRONTLINE!) can treat it. Contact your bunny-savvy vet for some. Flea/mite shampoos and stuff are too harsh for bunnies and could be toxic.

Good luck with the fleas, if that’s what it is! We got them, but not very badly. But it was still a nightmare. I combed the rabbits for 20 minutes every day with a flea comb and vacuumed nearly every day. Thankfully there are solutions out there. Good luck!

Thank you both! It’s for sure fleas I think. My grandmothers house is infested. It’s horrible. I have bites all over my body and I can only imagine how the animals feel. I just hope I don’t bring them home on my clothes or anything so I will wash everything right away and completely scrub Binkys house before treating him. Hopefully my little man will be okay!! And no frontline! That stuff nearly killed my sisters cat!
