        HI,

I am mom to  Caliope who is 4 months old. We have been letting her run around the downstairs a bit when we are home. Yesterday as I was cleaning out the cat’s litterbox, I noticed that Cali had been there. LOL She left her poop droppings all over. I am a new bunny person and don’t know much about them. Is it dangerous for her to be using their litterbox? Not sure what to do. I will keep her away from them if needed. I use a different litter for the cats, so if they can use the same box I will need to change litters.

        Thanks for your help

        Kia & Cali

I’m sure it’s fine as long as your bun didn’t eat any of the litter. (If it’s the clumping kind, it can cause problems.) Your bunny probably just recognized the litter box, and had to go.

Yes and no. Cat litter, besides being dangerous if ingested, is also dangerous if inhaled and shouldn’t be used for rabbits. You should try to discourage her from being in there. But I doubt she’s inhaled much from the handfull of times she’s used it so far.

If you want them to use the same litterbox, you could try changing your cat’s litter, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Cats are meat eaters and their leavings smell like a carnivore’s leavings lol. That could frighten the rabbit away from using it, and you might end up with a rabbit who only uses it half the time, plus he could be tracking cat poop all over/licking it off of her own fur. I don’t think it’d be a good situation.

Not to mention that there are certain bacterias in cat poo that are harmful for rabbits. There is a reason why women either trying to become pregnant or are pregnant should not handle cat litter: Cat poops have something harmful in them. So I discourage My cat from using the buns litterbox and vise-versa
