        Hi everyone!

I haven’t been around for ages because I’ve got a new job that’s keeping me ridiculously busy and Rufus has been so well and happy, I haven’t had to worry about him for ages.

Tonight though he is hunched up in the corner looking sorry for himself and hasn’t touched his pellets. He’s also not really touching his hay. He ate a tiny bit of banana when I put it up to his face but he didn’t climb all over me begging for it like he normally does. I think my stasis fears are finally coming true. He looks pretty miserable. Occasionally he lies down spread out for a minute or so but then gets back up again so he’s uncomfortable and lethargic. I’ve given him a couple of tummy massages and a dose of simethicone. His tummy is soft apart from up near his ribs and of course I can’t remember what it normally feels like up near his ribs. He’s moulting big time at the moment so I’m worried he might have a blockage.

It’s 10pm here. Will he be ok until morning? Or do you think this is emergency vet territory? He pooped and peed a little about an hour ago. Any advice? Should I try some veggies?

I caved and took him to the emergency vet. Now he’s being kept in over night. I’d appreciate any good thoughts you could send my sweet boy’s way. Thanks guys.

Emergency vet is always a good idea because you never know when it is too late. Sending vibes. Do you know if he has a blockage or not?

Thank you! The vet said I caught it really early so she thinks if there’s a blockage it’s only small. She’s doing a blood glucose test to make sure and giving him fluids until the super fancy bunny specialist gets in at 6am.

My room has never felt so empty without him rustling around in his hay.

Oh, poor little dear! Vibes for Rufus! I know these hours are nerve-wracking, but you’ve done the right thing and he’s in good hands.

Oh Rufus!!! I always get excited when I see you back on the forums – I’m only sorry that this time is cause Rufus is unwell (Eeek! Stasis)…… but I know he’s in the best of hands now. Wishing him a speedy, uncomplicated recovery. And I totally get your room feeling empty – I couldn’t imagine not having Henry in my room at night…. they are our little men after all! Lol!
Now that Rufus is at the vet, I don’t feel bad asking – are you enjoying your new job? And how’s the new (though not so new anymore, he he he) house working for you both?
Take care – and (((vibes))) for Rufus to get him well and back home asap. I’ll be looking out for your update.

                          Thank you so much everyone!
He just got home and he’s looking really well. Has a bit of energy and he’s munching on hay. He has medication (Zantac syrup) for the next three days just to make sure his guts keep on moving. I’m definitely not looking forward to trying to get him to take it! $500 to the vet so Rufus will be living like a king while I eat Baked Beans for the next few weeks

Andi! The house is going really well, Rufus loves it. He’s so happy and bouncy all the time which is why last night was such a shock. I renovated his old cage and joined it to another bigger cage too so he has this huge set up for when I’m not at home that’s more than three times the size of his previous cage. That makes me feel better if I can’t get home from work straight away. I’m really enjoying high school teaching too! It’s a tonne of work with all the lesson planning and marking but I love the school I’m at and I’m really finding my own style so that’s lots of fun.
How are you going? Is Henry still causing lots of mischief? Still drinking Coke?

I’m so glad Rufus is better and back home again =)

I can’t believe I missed this. Glad he is doing better, and the both of you are doing well in general.

Awesome Rufus!!! But good luck with giving him the medicine… that is the one thing I would dread if Henry ever became unwell.
Oh, and I so get the living off baked beans while paying his vet bill! Some of the meals I have made on the cheap while being in the same predicament with one of the dog’s…. One of my classics – homebrand family meat pie instead of meat, mashed potatoes with veg and gravy. Another – one of those Maggi mixes – instead of it being meat based (expensive), I bought a small piece of meat and chopped it up really small and added every veg I had on hand (I never read ‘their’ suggestions!), ha ha ha…. it was so big I had enough for 2 days when I added pasta as a side. And lets not forget the 2 minute noodles! And yes – I always have baked beans and spaghetti in my pantry!!! along with bread in the freezer for toast. Ha ha ha ha!
And I always say that too – if only Henry ‘knew’ he lived like a king! He has no idea how spoiled he is – bugga! Lol!

I am so happy your new job is great! And how wonderful you like your school – it makes going to work so much easier when you enjoy it and the people along with your surroundings. Good for you for having your own style! My favourite teacher in high school was my French teacher. No I didn’t learn a thing in French (DOH! cause I just had no interest in languages), but she kept our attention and it was a pleasure to be in her class. When I think about it – she had her own style!
Rufus’s new house sounds amazing – I know he’d be super happy! And I’m pleased your house turned out so fantastic too! I still remember how excited you were cause it was going to be so much better for Rufus – spoiled boy! He he he he he.

Ok, so we solved Henry’s Coke problem – we put the box in the laundry linen cupboard. I could have done that in the first place…. but who would have thought Henry would just ‘help himself’??? Lol! I’m still not sure whether to call him a dumb or clever bunny??? LOL!
And all is good here – thanks for asking Rufus!

Hug’s to Rufus from me and Henry, and I’ll still be thinking of him till he is 100% better and has taken ALL his medicine.

Thanks for your support everyone. I just wanted to give a quick update on how much better Rufus is. He’s completely back to his old self, you’d never know anything had ever been wrong with him. I got four doses of medicine into him, which was a major struggle but it did make his breath minty when he licked my nose

Looking back on it, I think I could possibly have waited till the next morning so I didn’t have to pay $300 for the emergency vet as well as the treatment costs but I think catching it so early is why he made such a fast and total recovery so I’d probably do the same exact thing again.

As weird as it sounds, I’m also a little bit relieved to know exactly what stasis looks like now. I’d been concerned before but I think I was being overly cautious. Now I almost feel more relaxed because I know that the signs are pretty obvious and that if I move quickly he’ll hopefully be ok. I think it’s given me piece of mind.

Anyway, I’ll leave you with a couple of pics of my little rascal fully recovered.
