So I brought home my new little bunny on Monday! Very excited and I think it is safe to say he is the cutest bunny I have ever seen! (sorry Luna and Neji!) He is a mini lop and pure black- which makes for very difficult photographing haha. I will insert pics!!

Also, it turns out his name is Bucky. I was thinking Lupin III and my Husband wanted a Midna but those names just didn’t suit. Jaime, Husband, said Bucky as he was running round and round me and he is most definitely named Bucky! so we have a little Captain Bucky o’Hare / Bucky aka the Winter Soldier.

New behaviours that Bucky has that my other two bunnies have never shown:

        • He is spraying and has been since Monday when we brought hime home. He is 19 weeks old which makes him roughly 5 months I think and I will be getting him fixed asap. He seems to do it when I come in the room or when I am cleaning his cage – does this mean anyhting?
        • He makes a buzzing noise. I have never neard this before and I can’t make out if it is a happy/excited sound or and unhappy one. Does anyone know what this sound means? He seems to do it when I sit in his cage and he runs around while doing it.
        • He squeaked at me too. Again, I have never heard a rabbit do this. It was when I gave him his first treat, he took a bit, squeaked and started running around again. That must have been a happy noise, right?

Yeah I think that is it. Any help/ suggestions would be great, thank you

All of those sound like a normal hormonal bunny who really loves his new mommy! Those are happy noises, and the spraying is marking. Careful, if he is spraying when you come in the room, you may be the next thing he sprays, and he may start showing his affection in more ways! I would definitely schedule that neuter.

BTW, with my three at least, when they are that “vocal” when young, they seem to stay pretty vocal and bunny noises are so cute and funny!

Spraying means he needs to be neutered :~)

Some rabbits are just more vocal than others hence the buzzing and the squeaking.

He’s just hormonal! The buzzing is honking and I think it is the cutest noise ever, sadly my boy stopped it straight after he was fixed at 5 months. He would dance around me and honk a fine tune! Or just run around buzzing like a bee at everything, so cute :3 Mine never sprayed, but it seems a relatively common behavior for hormonal bunnies, he is just claiming everything as his own and this will be especially because he’s in a new home. These things should stop once he is fixed.
I’ve never heard squeaking, but my female rabbit always makes weird noises when she gets exciting food, I can’t quite describe the sound, but I assumed it was an excited noise, so maybe it’s the same thing?
He is beautiful btw, totally adorable!

Thank you for these really kind and helpful replies

My first and oldest bun, Neji, must be a mute as he has never made any sound (apart from teeth grinding) so because of this I thought bunnies didn’t make any sound. Then I brought Luna home and she grunts all the time, which I love it shows how bossy she is. Now with Bucky being so vocal I was quite shocked hehe.
~ how lovely that every bun is different though :3

Pipje, your bunnies sound lovely. Does the noise you girl make almost sound like she is eating too fast? My female does this to and I feel that it is because she is enjoying it so much. It is almost a grunt, does that sound like it?

If he is humping your leg, you can gently push him off (It may take a bit of a push!) or just stand up. If its really bothersome you might want to avoid sitting INSIDE his run until he is neutered, you can sit just outside of it.

Thanks MK, he did it when I was stood up but I think you might be right with me sitting outside of the pen for a while. I have to keep washing my arms and changing my clothes because of his spray and he only seems to do it when I am inside.

Can’t say I didn’t warn you! LOL. As unpleasant as it may be, it’ll stop after he’s neutered and his hormones calm down. The good news is that there’s no doubt that your new bunny loves you!

You totally called that, JackRabbit haha. Well humping and spraying aside I am so pleased with the new addition!

I can’t comment on any of your questions I’m afraid, I’m new to bunnies, but Bucky is a beautiful boy ^_^ And yes, black bunnies are difficult to take pics of, I sympathise wholeheartedly lol You still managed to get a lovely heart-meltingly sweet pic of him
