Hi I have been slowly transitioning Henri to new pellets, I tried to get as close to what the breeder was feeding him which I now know is the equivalent of bunny junk food (lots of seeds and grains), and he now has mild diarrhoea (they don’t look like cecotropes more like normal droppings only squishy and only a few odd ones amongst the normal looking ones).  I’m going to get oxbow pellets for young rabbits tomorrow and am wondering if I should transition him to them quite quickly in the hope that that stops the diarrhoea or gradually mix it in with the new pellets?  He is just 4 months old are the young pellets the right ones to feed him?  Unfortunately I now only have about a teaspoon of the food the breeder was feeding him left.  Any advice is much appreciated!

I would just switch him to the good stuff – the young rabbit pellets are a good choice at his age.

Also make sure he is eating alot of grass hay – that may be the reason for runny poops, not enough grass hay.

Thank you for your advice, he is on oxbow now and no more diarrhea!

At 4 months old with mushy poop, it would be a good idea to have a vet check for coccidia if you haven”t already had a checkup. While diet change can affect poop consistency, so can coccidia.

I got my lops from a breeder and some mushy poop when they were young sent us to the vet. Coccidia was treated and they are fine. That being said, Moshi has a sensitive tummy and will produce excess cecals or have a little mushy poop with certain veggies, etc.

Hopefully the pellet change is what’s causing the poop problem, but a vet checkup is always a good idea when you get a bunny.
