Hey guys, about a week ago my lionhead has started shedding quite a bit. I could knit a sweater with the amount of fur I’ve been gently pulling from him. I’m not sure if THIS much shedding is normal, to the point where he’s getting bald spots almost. He seems to be losing more fur on his back then on his butt and sides. So I was hoping someone could shed some light on this. Everything else with him seems normal, I have recently been trying to bond him with a female rabbit and it’s been taking quite a few weeks now, so I’m not sure if that could be stressing him out to the point of hair loss, since she does like to lunge and try to bite him a few times throughout the day. Thanks guys!

It’s still motling season, and some rabbits do shed until the get bald, so I would say it is normal. Just check his skin to make sure he doesn’t have mites or fleas or something like that.

If you have been bonding them for a few weeks, I would start stress bonding them (there are MANY forum topics already on here that you can search. Lots of people have trouble bonding rabbits, and I think those forums would really help you.)

That’s a molt. When my bunnies are molting, the amount of fur coming off such small little buns is mind boggling! And they often get bald spots too. Perfectly normal. It’s often called “blowing their coat” and you can see why, it’s like it all blows off at once.
