I’m just curious to hear from those whose bunnies have free-range of the entire house/apartment.  My two have always had room to roam, but I’ve always been in tiny studio or one bedroom apartments.  Now that we’re in a 2 bedroom house, there’s often times the humans and the bunnies are on seperate ends of the house!  Luckily our house is NOT that big.

I just have found it interesting that a lot of the time, the bunnies hang out by themselves, either in our bedroom when we’re in the living room, or in the kitchen when we’re in the bedroom, etc.  I honestly thought they’d spend all their time in the same room with us!  That’s how it used to be in other environments… but that’s when we were in tiny spaces and they didn’t really have a choice but to be with us 24/7 LOL.

So, owners of free roaming house bunnies… do your bunnies hang with you 24/7?  Or do they do their own thing?  My bunnies have found their independence!  That is until the kale or treats come out then they resurface everytime!

Bobby pretty much does what he wants. He does like attention though so when he’s in the mood he’ll come downstairs for pets and jump up on his ottoman.

He’s pretty independent though for the most part. I think when I’m not home he spends most of the time upstairs either under the bed or in front of the window by his “room” or under one of the willow tents in his “room”.

But I will add that Henry is very sociable! A good example is, when we (the hubby, the 3 dog’s and I) get into bed – Henry comes straight in to the room. If the hubby and I get up to go into the kitchen for a snack, the dog’s follow us and then Henry bops along behind them. Once we go back to bed with our snack, so does the dog’s and Henry. Last night I ate a drumstick (ice cream cone) in bed and I had Henry climbing up my body and arms trying to get some – he loves a crushed peanut and I since found out last night he likes a bit of chocolate and the cone part, good grief!!! Sharing an ice cream cone with a bunny!
This morning, I came out and so did Henry – but he has since taken himself off to bed in my room (either under my bed or behind the curtain next to the glass door for his morning nap. As soon as he wakes up (around 12-1pm) he will come out here and spend the rest of the arvo till we ALL go to bed again tonight.
Henry may not be the snuggable cuddly bunny I wanted, but he is very ‘in your face’ and adores/thrives on company. But I also think that has a lot to do with him being a single bunny???
Do you know, Henry has taken a ‘special’ liking to one dog in particular….. she spends most of her time ‘outside’ HA HA HA HA!
              (poor (dog) Sam).

Powder was free roam until we bonded him to Stickers. He would sleep in my bed, or flopped out on the floor beside/under the bed on the A/C vents. During the day he would spend a lot of time in the closet of the now bunny-room but he’d also spend a fair amount flopped at either my or my partner’s chair. He also liked to play the “chase game” where he would run from one end of the house to the other, then invite me to chase him. lol He is a very social rabbit though, even now he’s not free roam he spends a lot of time with his humans when he’s out and about to play.

Jess is free-range inside in our open-plan living room/ dining room/ kitchen.

Annoyingly she’s just discovered that ripping tufts of wool out of my nice rug is also fun….

When I’m home during the day, like in the weekends, she still mainly keeps to herself from about 9am till 7pm. Her water bowl and pellets are beside a blanket under the dining table, she prefers to lie there most of the day, or go behind the fireplace. She mainly just rests during the day I find, occasionally investigates the corners of the room, stands up on her hind legs to get a better view, and nibbles at things. She has lots of wood and bark and cardboard to chew on.
Outside those hours she is more active but still likes to ‘base’ herself on her blanket or behind the fire. So I get more interaction in the mornings and late evenings. If I’m on the couch she likes to run Bunny 500s around the place, especially around the rug that I have my feet on. I will also lie down on the rug and she’ll bounce around me and honk for a bit. She won’t lie down against me but will lie down a few hands away while I’m reading a book. And she’ll do her grooming then too. But that’s only for a few hours a day.

She’s not terribly cuddly, and enjoys her ‘own’ time, but she’s happy for a pat and likes being nearby in the evenings. She’s good company and very entertaining.

I guess the real question is, what on earth do rabbits do all day when they are cooped up in a tiny little store-bought cage??????????????????

Luna is an active little madam, she likes running around and eating and digging at carpets (grr!) she’s verrry playful. We rarely know where she is, but we’re in a three room flat, so theres never any danger!
Merlin is so much more chill. He’ll eat breakfast, have a quick go in the diggy box, play with his paper bag then retire to under the bed to have a sleep till dinner time! I was hoping Luna would be an active influence on him but… oh well :p

I wish I could let my bunnies have the run of the house, but they just aren’t there yet. Moshi would rearrange everything. Marlee would chew little holes in all of the furniture. Kieko would pee on everything. All three would go crazy unraveling my berber carpet. Maybe when they’re older……
