My bunny Jinx is 11.5 years old and he has been slowing down a lot.  When getting up, he has to stretch out for a couple of seconds before he can even hop around anywhere.  I took him to the vet on Friday to get some general care and they put him on Metacam to help deal with the pain associated with the arthritis.

My question is, has anybody used laser treatment on their rabbit and did you see any positive results?  He already seems to hate me for giving him medicine twice a day, and I’m curious to know if anybody has dealt with any other procedures that were more long term.  The laser treatment is $120 for 3 sessions at his vet, and the Metacam comes out to about 40 a month, but I have to give it to him twice a day and he just absolutely hates it.

I have done laser treatments for a few of my rabbits. I think mine was 6 sessions – initially it did help and I was glad I did it. Maxine did have severe arthritis and I cannot remember exactly her age but she was a senior. Unfortunately the arthritis for her was debilitating and the arthritis ended up causing atrophy in her bag legs and when that started happening it did not help.

I would definitely do it again though – when I did it, it was about 4 years ago and the vet was new to this so it may be improved since then.
