My bunny drinks water out of a bottle and then will grab the bar of the cage under the bottle and pull hard.  He does this often, I’ve tried moving the bottle up or down and in different positions but he still does it.  Is this very odd behavior?  It doesn’t bother me I’m just wondering if it indicates that something is wrong or he’s not happy with the water (it is very hard water).

Does he only bite the cage bar when drinking water and no other time? Does he ever bite the bottle spout? Just wondering if he feels that not enough water is coming out at one time and that’s how he’s expressing frustration with it. If he bites on the cage bars at other times and in other places on the cage, then he likely wants attention or wants out.

Have you tried offering water in a bowl?

I’ve had him for about 6 weeks and I originally had water in a bowl but then he had coccidia and I switched him to the bottle to limit the chance of any chance of his water getting infected. He occasionally will pull on the bars, other than the water thing he’ll occasionally tug on the bars, sometimes when he is outside he’ll pull on it from the outside. But those are pretty rare instances. I’ll try giving him back the water bowl (he’s over the coccidia now) and see how that goes.

Shouldn’t get coccidia if the cage is clean and water bowl is cleaned filled with fresh water at least once a day. You can try bottled water but don’t buy in bulk because if it’s stored too long it might taste like plastic.
