I recently returned from a two week business trip to find trigger had lost a bit of weight and was not eating very much. A friend of mine was feeding and cleaning triggers litter pan while I was gone. Trigger is a 100% free roam in the whole house and is about 99% litter trained. After I returned home I laid on the floor with him for a good hour petting him and talking to him and he started to eat some. My friend said the last week he didn’t eat much but drank a lot of water and seemed to be about the same amount of poop and pee in the litter pan. Trigger has started to eat like and pig since I have returned home but no longer hangs out in his normal spots or flops any more. He still follows me around the house but seems less interested in me than before I left. Also when he is laying down he seems less comfortable than before I left. So my question is could he have been depressed that I was gone for so long he stopped eating….. And now that I’m back he is slightly happier but making himself sick from eating to much. I will continue to monitor his food intake and his litter pan. I really don’t want to visit the vet again for the third time in two months but I will if I have to have him checked out. I’m worried about some sort of digestion problem.

Any changes can stress them out, so that could be an issue. If you do see a vet, I would have them check his teeth though.

He had his teeth checked about a month ago and every thing looked great. He did follow me to my bed room and is laying down under the bed but his belly seems bloated so I’ve been massaging his belly but doesn’t seem to be a fan of that and just wants his head rubbed. Hope the little guy is doing better in the morning I probably won’t sleep very well

Have you noticed his poops being a different color/shape than normal?

He just pooped about 20 marbles slightly larger than normal and some pressure seems to be gone from his belly and he’s seems more relaxed now.

Glad to hear that. I would just make sure to keep a close eye on him for a few days.

Trigger seems ok this morning running around so maybe he was just constipated from eating so much. I gave him extra parsley since parsley is kinda watery hope that helps.

Sounds to me like he might have had a bit of gas or something similar.
                      Glad he is doing better!

Rabbits can eat huge amounts of food. As long as its high fibre, it usually shouldn’t cause an issue. Of course, everything in moderation…

Its possible he had some stress related to your being away. They love their routines! I think you’ll see he’ll come back to his social self.

Re vet visits, have you checked out VPI pet insurance or CareCredit. Those could come in handy in the future.

It sounds like Trigger may have missed you and was stressed out by it. Maybe next time you go away you could leave him with a used shirt of yours to cuddle with when he misses you. That may help with some of the anxiety.
