I found this out yesterday and thought I would share in case anybody else is experiencing this!

My dutch rabbit is obsessed with anything soft.  If I’m doing laundry and have some clothes laying on the floor, she will come over and roll in them.  She is mostly obsessed with the couch.  She hops up, rolls on it, and licks the entire thing.  This happens mostly at night while I am asleep (they are free-range), and I come down in the morning to see little tongue marks all over my microfiber couch.

Spot cleaning bunny lick marks only made the problem worse, and I discovered that rubbing alcohol solves the problem!  Just rub a little in with a toothbrush and the mark goes away. It will also work on puppy nose prints, water spills, etc.

Looks like new.  Until the morning.

I wonder if white vinegar would work as well? I ask, because as you mentioned, you will find more lick marks in the morning, and I’m a little concerned about them licking an area that’s had alcohol on it. We know white vinegar is safe for bunnies, plus they don’t like the smell, so it’s recommended as a spray mix with water to discourage bunnies from chewing on baseboards, table legs etc. I would suggest trying a light spray on the couch, let it dry, and see if the licking stops.

            Or cheap vodka!

I’m not surprised that the rubbing alcohol works. I’m certain it’s one of ingredients in Natures Miracle. Certainly smells like it.

            Your rabbits sound too cute!

Alcohol evaporizes quickly, so I doubt there will be much left for the bunbun to party on =)

You canm get drunk from the fumes though but only if you breathe them in as they are actively evaporizing, very close to your nose and only very shortly after application to your hands. Alcohol detectors in cars may react and I know kids have used the method to intoxicate themselves at music-festivals where portable toilets with rubbing alcohol as a hand-disinfectant are common. Takes a bit of effort and dedication though. But then again, you never know with rabbits, they certainly can be dedicatedf about stuff they really want =)

Hey, yes! Sorry for the delayed response. Rubbing alcohol does indeed evaporate very quickly. I use a small amount and it is completely gone within a minute. I’ve heard vinegar can weaken microfiber, but I’m not sure if that is true.

                No partying rabbits here…
