I’m planning on going away on vacation for about a week. Gunther will be staying in my home and my parents have agreed to take care of him while I am gone. He is still going to be in his regular environment so the only adjustment will be with me not being there. I’m so nervous that he won’t remember me or won’t like me as much when I get back. We’re so well bonded, he gives me kisses and loves to jump into bed with me and cuddle. I’m so worried that he won’t be as affectionate when I get back. Do you guys think that this fear is based on a potential reality or not quite? Thanks for your responses, in advance.

Your bunny should not forget you in a week. I have gone away several weeks this summer and I am always greeted when I get back by licks and cuddles with the bunnies. As long as he is in good hands, there is nothing to worry about.

Sometimes a bunny may pout a little when you’ve been away. It may even take a few hours before he lets you into his good graces again, if he’s that kind of bunny. But it’s nothing to worry about.

We’ve gone away on vacation a few times and Porky has always been delighted to see us when we got back.

I just got back from a two week business trip and trigger appeared to be very depressed and wasn’t eating much. I had a friend of mine come over and take care of him while I was gone. I’ve been home for two days now and he’s back into his normal habits and eating well again. Trigger was pretty much home by himself for the two weeks besides when my friend came over to feed him and take care of his litter pan. Trigger is a 100% free roam rabbit but still has his cage to go into when he eats and needs to use the littler pan. Your rabbit should be just fine and most likely excited to see you.

Agreed. He will not forget. But you may get some attitude like I did when I go back from a vacation. lol!

No, he will not forget you. I went away for 9 days once and my buns certainly did not forget me. Although, they were not excited like I thought they would be. A tad resentful. Bunny butt!

Oh lord the infamous bunny butt, I’ve experienced it when he felt jealous when I was fostering some other animals but once they were adopted he was beyond affectionate, melted my heart!

Funny, I boarded Theodore for a week and when I came back and brought him home, he was so happy and excited to be back he binkied all over the place (which is significant for a bun who doesn’t normally binky to show his happiness – he prefers tooth purring and honking).

Bunnies have strong long-term memories associated with scent and sound. He won’t forget you in a week! C:
