I’m still trying to determine the sex of the abandoned rabbit we found. We decided to keep it and my husband built it a hutch. Does anyone know what kind of rabbit we have? His name is Woodhouse and he can already do tricks and knows his name! We’ve only had him 2 months but he doesn’t seem to be growing much, he’s very tiny actually (1.5 pounds maybe). We just want to know what he is to plan on how big he will grow! Thanks!

Is the bunny in your avatar the one you are talking about? Some members are good at identifying breeds so if you could post a few pictures I be they could help!

If he is a rescue, he is more likely than not a mix, and may have a multitude of different breeds in him. However, if you could post some photos, some breed-savvy members (not me) could help you identify the major breeds.

I’m not sure – he’s cute – most likely he is a mix of something though.

S/He looks young, so she could most likely still grow. Like LEL was saying, your bun is most likely a mix. He may be a dwarf mix, but his ears don’t really point to dwarf because they look too big for that/wrong shape, but s/he’s very small, and most mixes will have traits of both breeds.

Do you have any idea on the bun’s age? That would be a help.

                  I’m thinking Netherland Dwarf mix.

Here’s a pics I got online of a netherland dwarf babies:

I’m think a poorly bred Netherland dwarf / mix.

                    He/she is adorable though! Precious!

Yeah, we just found it wandering outside. In winter it gets to -30C here so it would have died for sure
Nevertheless, thanks everyone for your guesses! I think it might be a Netherland dwarf mixed with something else with larger ears, but who knows!

1.5 pounds is very very small. Show quality netherland dwarfs are allowed to be up to 2.5 pounds, and it’s common for pet quality ones to be closer to 3 pounds, so 1.5 is very very small. Especially considering your bunny doesn’t show the usual dwarf traits like small ears and short limbs. Are you sure about the weight. I wouldn’t expect a mix who lost the dwarf traits to weight so little.

If you are sure about the weight, it is very unusual.

Possibly s/he is still young, but I would have expected noticeable growth in 2 months.

Bunnies actually mind hot weather more than cold weather, so making sure you keep him/her cool now is a bigger concern than how cold it gets in the winter.

I agree with the others, probably a mixed breed but very beautiful!
