According to Oxbows website, they had a fire and can’t make it anymore.  What alternative litters are most similar to ecostraw?

I haven’t used it but it looks like a similar shape the the yesterday’s news products. If you are worried about how your bunny will take to a new little type, I would say try the yesterdays news pellets. If your rabbit has allergies or a medical reason for using the eco-straw, I am unsure of what pellets are made up of the same material as the eco-straw.

I like that litter too, because it doesn’t have a strong wood smell like pine and aspen pellets do. There are some other wheat straw based pellets, but they may be hard to find. One is Critter Country. They do have it at Amazon, but it’s very pricey with the shipping. You can go to the maker’s website, Mountain Meadows, and see if there are places near you that sell it. They also sell Cat Country litter, which I believe is the same thing. http://mtnmeadowspet.com/critter_country.html. Hartz used to sell a straw based pellet, but they discontinued that.

Oxbow said that they might start selling Eco-Straw again if they can find a manufacturer.  Maybe if enough people contact them, and let them know how much they like the product, they will try harder to get it back on the market.

I used to use that stuff, and I am sorry to hear it was discontinued.
I think wood-stove pellets would be a good option for an alternative litter, I find they work quite well.

I have heard about wood stove pellets here many times, but I’m very unfamiliar with them. I don’t know if they are available around here, since most people have natural gas furnaces, or occasionally if it’s an older furnace oil. If I could find it, do I have to worry about it have accelerants like charcoal with lighter fluid in it? Is there a special brand?

Does Yesterday’s News smell like news paper?

Equine stall bedding is very similar… Do you live in an area (or outside of an area) that has a big farming community? If there are Tractor Supply stores near you, you might check with them if they have that available.

I live in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio and my local hardware stores do not carry WSP, but i can travel to the store further out (about 20 minutes away) and buy WSP in the winter months. I stock up with enough bags to last through the warmer months.

You can buy it as horse bedding like Sarita says, or you can even buy “feline pine.” (It’s a cat litter but it’s the same thing)
If you do find actual wood stove pellets, they aren’t likely to have accelerants, but just check the package to make sure.

Eepster- Honestly, I have never paid attention to how newspaper smells. However, I do not recall yesterday’s news having any scent to it (when you get unscented). I now use carefresh as my rabbits prefer it.
