I have a young bunny about 3 months old purchased from petshop 2 weeks ago. I am a former jersey wooly rabbit breeder and have had many house bunnies over the years. Due to circumstances I had to give up my bunnies about 10 years ago. I am thrilled to have a buny again and he will be a solo spoiled one.
Anyway, I was pretty sure he had ear mites. Lots of digging and scratching. I used a few drops of olive oil in each ear to smother them a few days ago and ordered some Vet Rx for rabbits. I put a few drops in his ears today and I think it irritated them. It’s evening now and I used them this morning. He still is trying to shake the drops out and has been grooming constantly because he scratches his ear and some Vet Rx got on it and he tries to get it off. He just doesn’t seem happy at all since the application.
Has anyone experienced Vet Rx irritating ears or maybe he just really doesn’t like the smellmorvsomething of the additives. Years ago I kept ivermectin on hand when I had more rabbits, but I knew oil will smother them and thought the Vet Rx would be really good.

Never heard of vetRX, I googled it though and it probably feels very weird in his ears and smells funny. Could also be burning, if he’d scratched his ears, given it has alcohol in it. Usually I just take animals to get the vet for prescription drops if they have mites, so not familiar with the product.

I would have the vet check his ears and use something the vet recommends if you think this is causing problems.

Revolution (selamectin) is great for ear or fur mite. I’ve even found I didn’t need to do follow up applications.

I’m hesitant to suggest using oil in the ears but I wonder if a wipe of mineral oil on a cotton ball would help remove the vetrx? Or dilute it.
He could be shaking his ears because some debris fell into the canal.

I would see if you can get to the vet, and get a proper diagnosis before treating any further.
