I am getting ready to read “The Lost Symbol” by Dan Brown.  Had this for a long time in hardcover…have loved his other novels (and the movies) so I cannot wait to get going on this one.

        Recently finished:

3 by Patricia Cornwell – Kay Scarpetta series – “Port Mortuary” “Book of the Dead” and “Scarpetta” – I have had these for awhile (paperback).

3 by Donna Leon –  Inspector Brunetti series – “Blood from a Stone”, “Dressed for Death” and “Doctored Evidence” – I really love these mysteries – they are set in Venice and the surrounding areas which I love reading about.  Forgot I also read “Through a Glass Darkly” in this series.  Those were the 4 in paperback I had.

I have been making an effort to do more reading and to really just get through all the books I have.  I’m finding my love of reading again.

        What about you?

“The Lady Elizabeth” by Alison Weir. Another Tudor book, big surprise. I’m finding it a bit boring, because I’ve read so many books on Elizabeth’s life already. But Alison Weir is one of my fave authors.

We’re working on moving our bedroom downstairs while getting ready for the baby. And I’m in the process of packing up all my books to bring down. I’m seeing how many books I really have. So many I’ve read but can’t part with and so many in my “To Read Pile”. Ricky says I have to get rid of some, but I will do that when he gets rid of some of his action figures.

I am reading two books right now. ICU to Marathon: Diaries of a Nearly Dead Man by David Johndrow (a very humorous book about weight loss and heart disease) and The Quiet Game by Greg Iles.

LOL – total agreement – everyone has to make some sacrifices :~)

I decided to just find new homes for any books I’ve already read because I figure I have so many TO READ that I’ll never get to re-read what I’ve read – also if I did decide to re-read I want to put it on my Nook or Kindle because books take up so much space. I know an e-reader is not the same as an actual book, but it is surely a lighter load than an actual book.

I think I may work on reading my Philippa Gregory books next – I have tons of hers to read based on your recommendations. Just have to go on-line and find the order to read them.

I keep meaning to try the Donna leon series. I am sure I read at least one, but can’t remember which. So, I’ve put 2 of her first 3 written on hold at my library and if I’ve read the first one (sounds a bit familiar) then I will move on to another. Any reason to keep reading them in order?

I am now trying to finish my third book by Preston & Child (collaborators), the FBI agent Pendergast series, which has a smattering of the supernatural. But mostly, they are slow and gruesome, so I’m about ready to give up on their series.

I think I put off the Lost Symbol until it wasn’t a 7-14 day book at the library. So fat, I need more time. Must remember to try it again.

Oh, I love Greg Iles – he is so good. I currently have “Third Degree” in my paperback pile to read. I think at one time I tried to read all his books – they are so addicting…not 100% certain if I read the one you are reading though. The David Johndrow book sounds like fun too.

Funny enough I just picked up Blood from a Stone from the library because it looked like a quick read. Good to know it’s recommended. I haven’t done much heavy reading recently as I’ve been working though some borrowed cookbooks. Just started David Lebovitz’s My Paris Kitchen. I’m sucker for pretty food photography lol.

I love David Lebovitz’s blog – he was recently in Dallas for a book signing too. Let me know if you like that book justwildbeat – I think I got a sample of it on my Nookbook to look at.

Let me know what you think of “Blood from a Stone” too – I really love Brunetti books. They are easy reads.

Pam, I don’t think you need to read his books in order – I did because I had 4 books to read of his but I know I haven’t read them all and there may have been a gap but no reason to read in order because each story is completed and while many of the characters are the same, you don’t miss anything as far as plots that I can see.

I have to make sure I never start reading a Greg Iles book before bedtime or I may not actually go to sleep! This is the first Penn Cage book. I have read all the others and I am not sure how I missed this one but I found it at the used book store the other day. It’s kind of like finding money in the pocket of your winter coat in the fall!

You know, I guess I’ve never read his Penn Cage series looking at his books – I am going to look at those. I frantically read his other books once I realized how much I enjoyed him and the one I currently have I must have picked up ages ago. Got a sample of “The Quiet Game” on m Nook to remind me to take a look at it.

I’m reading two books right now. The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt so far I am not a fan of the book in some places it is engaging and in other places it is beyond absurd. And I just started Dear Daughter by Elizabeth Little. I am really enjoying Dear Daughter.

I’m reading The Sorcerers Ring series, right now just because I hate not finishing a series once I start it… but it’s frustrating me, if the author uses “could care less” one more time…

Lol Stickerbunny! I hate when that happens! I have been working my way through the Alex Cross series by James Patterson. In the beginning I loved them but now it’s like enough already just let the guy fall in love and live happily ever after. (I know it’s a crime series not a romance but how many times can he fall in love and they turn out to be a serial killer or dies?)

Sarita, good to know. Sometimes it’s fun to read a book that’s only a few years old, but before everyone was carrying cell phones on them and things like that.

I almost forgot: I read Katherine Howe’s newest, “Conversion”. Very good book, and only her 3rd from a fairly new writer. Only after I started it did I notice the YA label – but it was still a good read. Her area of study has been the Salem witch trials (her ancestors), so her first and 3rd books are rooted in that. Recommend it.

Funny you say that Pam because sometimes I watch some old shows like Magnum PI and well, tons of others and cell phones, well, they were pretty much just didn’t exist…makes you wonder what we did before cell phones and computers LOL…unfortunately I remember.

All my books at the moment are religious studies type books, which most people probably think is boring?

When I’m done with those, I can come here of book suggestions!

Got an email from the library last night. The latest book in Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments series, City of Heavenly Fire, just got there!! I’m on my way out the door now to pick that up and the previous one, City of Lost Souls, to refresh the story for me. So excited!

I’m reading Broken Harbour by Tana French. It’s really scary. I’m wondering if maybe it’s a killer bunny they’ve got upp there in the attic. Can’t wait to find out.

Before this one I read Live By Night by Dennis Lehane. An extremely good book imo.
