My neighbor has 2 rabbits in her yard that I believe someone released in our neighborhood. She says they have been in her back yard for about 2 weeks.  I have 3 pet rabbits, so I have hay etc. I put out some hay, pellets and water. I have a large outdoor fenced play area that I take mine out to everyday to play. If I can catch them, I can keep them there until I can get them to a rescue home. Any ideas on how to capture them and who I can contact after I have them?

Oh, definitely try and catch them! All I can suggest if using food to try and tempt them!

Do you have a rescue nearby who you can call?

Try something that is a special treat to tempt them with, banana, carrots, anything sweet with a strong scent to attract them.

Who to call depends on where you are.  Also, check craigslist for lost bunny ads.

I haven’t been able to locate a foster home, only the Humane Society. It is a no euthanasia shelter, but I would really like them to be in a home instead of a shelter. I know that would be better than them being out in the neighborhood though.

              Thank you!

Try searching for rabbit rescues in your area. Go to google and put in your zip code and the words “rabbit rescue”. The House Rabbit Society has listings for their local chapters by state and a list of independent rabbit rescues under the “For Adopters” section on their website. A rescue group might have foster home openings, or could help you get set up to foster them until they can find a more permanent situation. Even if you don’t find a local rescue, a no-kill shelter is way better than the fate they’ll face outside on their own. Good luck and thanks for caring!

I checked Craig’s list and our local paper, no luck. I will keep trying to figure out a way to catch them. Thank you!

I would never send them somewhere they would be killed, that would be just heart breaking. I love them way too much already! I would love to keep them but don’t have the room since I already have one of my own and am fostering my daughter’s 2 bunnies. As soon as I catch them, I can keep them in my outdoor run until I can get them somewhere safe. It’s very big and secure, it even has a hardware cloth floor since one of mine is a digger.

                    Thanks for the info!

Oh, I hope you’ve managed to lure them to you by now! If not, keep trying!

Just wanted to reiterate what JumpinBuns said about the House Rabbit Society’s listings. Here is a link: click this!

Then look at the list of states on the lefthand side. Select your state, and it will bring you to the page for your nearest HRS chapter. If you call them, they can help you — they may even be able to help you wrangle the buns!

I was able to catch the gray bunny on Saturday. I have not seen the black one so I don’t know what happened to him There is not a HRS chapter in Utah that I could find. We have the Humane Society here that will keep them until they get adopted or pass away, whichever comes first. They have a new bunny room and from what I understand they get a lot of attention. I am taking him there today. I’m so sad to be giving him away. I hope I’ll feel better about it soon. At least I know he’ll be safe.

Glad you were able to catch the grey one. Sounds like he is in good hands.
I hope the black one is alright…
