Hey guys.. I posted a few months ago about how I rescued an elder bun (10 yrs old) named Thumper. I dont think he was ever litter trained, so he just pees on the wee wee pads we have put down in his area with a fence surrounding it. Sometimes, he just sits in his pee after he goes. This has caused his bum and paws to become dirty and somewhat matted. Was wondering if anyone has tips or ideas on how to clean.. He is very old and fragile and I dont want to hurt him. I want to use something to clean him thats safe! We tried dunking the area with just warm water and using a washcloth but it didnt make much difference. Any ideas are appreciated

Rubbing cornstarch into soiled fur then brushing it out can help freshen things up.

It’s odd he sit in pee sometimes. Make me wonder if he’s lost some sensation in his hind area.

My bunnies are getting older and starting to lose their ability to go in the box now. Which is tough with 2! I have a rubber bath mat down on the floor which is easy on their feet, and a towel over that, which I switch out daily as they pee on it and its always wet. Pippin, my bigger of my 2 was always the one to have a wet bum so I’d run her tush under lukewarm bath water, holding her with one arm and using my other hand to run my fingers through her fur as it went under the faucet to make sure it was getting clean. She HATED this but trusted me, so she’d be still for it. If it wasn’t too soaked, I’d just turn her over and sop up the pee in her fur with a paper towel and then use a baby wipe to clean her up after that. Good luck with your elder bun!
