Marilyn came to me as a child of divorce, so from what I knew she didn’t have partners before I got her. That being said, I brought her home as a partner to my other guy, then named them Marilyn and Joey (DiMaggio). It was love at first sight, and I barely even needed to bond them (after a small debaucle of being told he was fixed when he was, indeed, not)…unfortunately Joey crossed the Rainbow Bridge just 6 short months later. Worried that Marilyn needed a buddy, I quickly adopted Rufus from a friend of mine whose bunny didn’t like him. Rufus was unaltered when I got them, so I was able to bond them through the pens and get them used to each other before getting the operation and moving them in together. And again, no problems once so ever.

Well, except one small one…she ALWAYS humps her partners. Front, back, doesn’t matter. I’ve noticed that she does it mostly when I am feeding them, especially after she started humping my cat when he went to HIS food bowl.

But anyway, my poor baby Rufus ended up passing earlier this summer, and I have been holding out on getting another one for various reasons. My question is, should I stick to male-female? I’ve had people who have rabbits tell me that male-female are the best, while female-female tend to hold the most aggression towards each other, but I can’t find any verified info. I thought I’d crowd source.

So does anyone have experience with female-female bonding? Especially with a rabbit that is used to having a male partner?

How can I tell if she is depressed on her own? she seems fine, binkies, plays hide and seek and is even getting more and more used to Dexter, the cat (they match too! both all black).

Female-Female bondings can defiantly work, bit it is more diffiucult to bond. It’s like having 2 alphas be best friends.
I would just stick to female-male bonding (lots easier and the rabbits love eachother more), unless you really want 2 females.
