        Hello All!

I am hopefully to be a new bunny owner since we are moving to a new larger house! I have created a rough draft of a c&c cage (Or NIC cage/condo). I wanted to build my own since other cages are either too small or expensive. This way was much cheaper and I could make the cage more customizable.

Here’s the rough draft. I plan for it to be three stores. If that doesn’t work correctly, just imagine it without the top story

The correct dimensions aren’t planned out exactly, but I put together about how many grids.

It is planned to be 4 grids long, 2 grids wide, and 4 grids tall. It will have a wooden base with either linoleum flooring or a tile. There will be a wooden liner around it to keep droppings or any other messes from falling out onto the floor. The second floor will accessible by a ramp while the third level with be a jump from the top of a hiding house.

The design on the left is a side view and the one on the right is a full on view.

Doors aren’t visible in this image but I plan to have doors on all levels for easy cleaning.

PLEASE, tell me what you think about it. Remember, its a rough draft. Constructive criticism is gladly accepted!

I have a condo with the same dimensions. Ours has 3 full levels with two ramps. The center two grids are full-height doors, with the top left grid being able to open without opening the rest of the door (Kieko’s litterbox is up there and she also eats up there). Our doors are held closed with horizontal wood slats that sit in L-brackets attached under each level; the one on the base is actually a piece of the “baseboard” that lifts out. We also put a piece of clear plexiglass at the doorway on the top two levels (afraid she would fall out if the doors were open), and added a bungee when Kieko started pulling on the door at the bottom level.

If I was starting over, what would I do different? . . . Our levels are 18 to 19 inches high. I’d make them 23 inches high, even if it meant adding a 5th level of grids to the heighth. The bottem level is a bit dark, middle level is better but still a little darker than I’d like it to be.

Things to remember . . . Criss-cross the zip-ties everywhere that 4 grids meet (except for doors so they will swing open). Add 1×2’s (We did 4) the full length (4 grids) plus a few extra inches at the top (just slide them through the top squares of the grid) for extra strength so you can put things (not too heavy) on top of the condo. Ours is super sturdy, and we’ve gotten lots of compliments on it (the credit goes to my hubby!)

            Have fun!
