Hello everyone! I made an account today so i could get some help from this wonderful forum. i need help so bad. i’m getting very very worried!

So to begin, earlier this week my girlfriend and I noticed our beautiful merle Holland Lop, Myop, wasn’t moving much and was just sitting next to her water dish with her paws dipped in it. We thought maybe she was just being lazy. After a while in which she didn’t move, we picked her up to inspect her and notice an inch long rip down the length of her tail. She also just had not been eating at all. We were instantly concerned and took her to the vet. They stitched her up, gave her an appetite shot and an antibiotic shot and we went on our way. We picked up some Critical Care and syringe fed her the Critical care and water and kept a close eye on her. Within an hour, we noticed she had peed and had a generous amount of poos in her liter box so we ruled out GI Stasis (my biggest fear) but she was still sitting in the corner of her cage and not moving much.

The next day we notice that the wound on her tail had opened up a bit and she still wasn’t eating. We then took her back to the vet and they kept her overnight to stitch her up again and keep an eye on her. This morning we picked her up and the vet told up that she was looking good, to which we were relieved. We took her home and she drank a little bit of water, had two carrots and some hay, and was digging in the phone book that she loves so much. That was earlier but now she still won’t eat! This is really frustrating me!

Is it possible that she just isn’t hungry cause of the pain from her tail? The vet said that she was doing fine, but are they telling the truth? She is doing some normal behaviors ie. grooming herself, Standing up on her hind legs. But this not eating thing is really getting me worried. I love my baby and i want her to get back to her crazy self!

P.s. We have been continuing the Critical Care and water feeding.

Please help me out if you can! Thank you!

Keep up with the CC and try some nice aromatic herbs to whet her appetite… Cilantro/coriander, kale, parsley, sweet basil…. Maybe some treats like banana, apple or strawberries….

We thought that maybe she had gotten in a tussle with our other bunny Applesause, but we keep them separate as they are not bonded yet. We found clumps of hair and her skin in her cage and thought that maybe it was self inflicted or that she had caught it on one of the wire crossings in her cage. Other than that we have no idea.

We had been looking up possible diagnosis’s and noticed one detail that we didn’t really take eye to. She has been peeing everywhere in small amounts and looking like she has to pee (in her pee stance) but nothing is happening. The urine that had managed to come out is brown. Possible sign of a UTI? We as assuming that her tail could be swelling and causing trouble with her urination. would that be a safe assumption?

Again i want to stress that she is doing normal bunny behaviors like last night she was digging, we rubbed her tummy and she started purring, then she explored around the living room a bit. But she still at the end of all of that found a corner and parked herself there.

UPDATE: We are taking Myop to a different vet. This vet is a small animal vet and has been approved by the House Rabbit Society so we are crossing our fingers that they can help us out. Please let me know if anyone has any input for what may be happening!

And a thank you to Roberta and Robyn for the kind thoughts and advice. we appreciate it greatly!

If their cages are close together Applesauce may have managed a bite through the bars…. These things happen though..

Keep us updated… It could just be a stress reaction to the vet and treatment and may resolve itself but anything involving gut function etc its always a good idea to get a second opinion if you aren’t confident with the first diagnosis…

                      You know your bunnies best.

Back from the vet and they had told us it is GI Stasis. Very very good veterinarian, they provided us with and antibiotic, pain meds, and a suggested dosage of Critical Care. They said that Myop is behaving very well and that the Stasis isn’t as bad as they’ve seen before. They suggested that if she doesn’t start eating on her own in 48-72 hours to call them and bring her back.

Sitting with her in the room right now I am watching her sniffing and nibbling on her hay! very exciting! I hope she keeps it up!

Excellent that she is eating… Hydration is very important so if she isn’t taking much water you can try the moist herbs or syringing some extra water. Empty her trays regularly so you can monitor poop. Gentle tummy rubs often help gas to subside and keep things going.

Nibbling is good. I hope she gets over this soon!
