        Well poor Cash has tried to be too aggressive and hump my legs one too many times.

        He’s getting neutered in two weeks. The appointment is made, and all set up to get himself snippy snipped.

        He’s about a year and a half old now, and has recently gotten highly aggressive because of his raging hormones.

        So… I’ve had neutered dogs, but never a rabbit. Afterwards what is some stuff I might expect to see that is good, normal, and maybe some out of the ordinary stuff? Just so I know what to keep an eye out for, or something that so normal so I don’t get paranoid! Will I need to clean his cage more often? I already clean it twice a week, but I don’t want to risk infections….

        The doc is sending me home some pain meds for him as well… Sorry he is my first bunny, so I’m quite nervous and don’t wanna cause him any discomfort!

        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        Oh and this is a more just curious kind of thing. My boyfriend was so against getting Cash neutered because he said he couldn’t let a fellow man lose his junk. That he would no longer be a man, and it was just terrible… And blah blah blah… It took a lot to get him to accept it was going to happen. Same thing happened with my step-father and their GSD. With my father and his Akita…. They don’t want their male pets getting snipped!
        Why do men do this, and also have any of you users run into this problem or are the people I associate with are just absolutely bonkers? O.o
          You will notice him not wanting to eat much when he first gets home, which is normal. Clean up while he is at the vet and keep his area neat for about a week, also check his incision area. Some buns like cold areas to lay on, some want comfy warm spots. My boy kept his butt tail up against our wall a/c vents so the cold air blew right on his spot. Lol
          As for men not wanting animals neutered, not sure why they do that. Something about thinking about losing those bits makes them think animals will feel the same way they would. It is just responsible pet ownership though in many cases and that is why there are “real men spay/neuter” ad campaigns. *shrug*
            Send a snack pack along so he has nibbles for before and after… Mine always have their lunch boxes with them. Keep them quiet and let them have some time to themselves when you first get him home. Don’t be tempted to hover every few minutes. It will take a good 4-5 weeks for his hormones to completely settle so a little bad behavior in the interim will not be unusual..
              Okay so I’ll make sure to toss some extra bedding into the cage, and clean it daily. What am I checking his incision area for exactly????
              I’ll keep that in mind. We have a nice fan he enjoys laying in front of, and I will give him multiple options, including a very low heat heating pad covered with a thick blanket.
              Lol that’s funny. I just don’t get it. I told my boyfriend we can get Cash neutered or him, since I’m tired of having two hormonal boys in my apartment. Between that and Cash trying to mount my legs to the point of it being a serious inconvenience for the both of us he finally caved. ((I think the threats to neuter him were what really made him cave!))
                Yup the vet asked me to send over his pellet food, some hay, and his treats when I bring him in. I’m gonna make sure he eats his fresh veggies before he goes to the vet, so I know that he at least eats them.
                Okay so I’ll section him off and let him alone. Yeah I would hover. But I’ll be nice. It probably isn’t nice knowing your owner sends you to get bits of you removed.
                And 4-5 weeks? Sweet. I can deal with that! And the bad behavior. I’m used to. It will be shocking to have a behaving bunny who doesn’t try to mount me every few minutes!
                  You want to check his incision area every few days for signs of infection. The vet can tell you details when you pick him up. Usually its ok, but sometimes there is a slight infection, bleeding or chewing.
                  Only complication I had was my boy refused water for three days and we had to dropper some into his mouth to keep him hydrated. He is older though and a total baby, most males bounce back quickly.
                    Exactly. Animals don’t know what those bits are there for, but we do. I guess that’s why some men take this too “personally”. Next time someone says this to you, ask them if they would rather have their bits snipped off or have to go through life with horrible urges and NO sex EVER. Seems like they forget to consider that last part.
                    Good luck with your boys neuter, usually they recover pretty quickly. Mine was back to normal after a couple of days.
                      Hi,
                      I got Hazel fixed about 3 weeks ago. All my buns (boys) are fixed. Jellybean, Peanut, and Hazel were a little out of it when they got home, but the minute food was in front of them, they went for it. Peanut and Jellybean were only given painkillers. Hazel was given painkillers and antibiotics-which was a good thing because Hazel was actually picking at his incisions.
                      When I got them back into their pens after the vet’s , I made sure the house was as quiet as possible and gave them veggies, kibbles and water right away. The 2 hardest parts of this all was keeping them from running around and giving them their meds. As far as meds go, my buns were all fussy.
                      Not sure if I’m giving too much info, but the first day, the sacs were pink, swollen looking, but nothing bad. The next two days they looked swollen and bruised. After that, the bruising was gone, just pink looking sacs and had reduced in size and were no longer swollen. Now, most of the loose skin is gone. i think in a week or two, it will look like he never had anything to begin with.
                      It’s great to have them fixed No poop wars.
                          My husband had a hard time when our boys got snipped. He was nearly in tears and whimpering when we dropped off Caesar and Harley for their neuter. I guess its a special “male bond” thing guys have.
                            See Cash isn’t challenging anyone for dominance. He keeps trying to mate with my legs aggressively. And is tearing chunks out of them. And it hurts. Hence the snipping. He only did it one to my boyfriend, when he was wearing a pair of my large sweatpants and smelled like me. That was the final straw really, and what decided it.
                              I just don’t get it honestly. I never had the issue with spaying my female animals.
                              Men are strange strange beings.
