Hi. My rabbit is 3 months old. She’s currently unspayed, but soon she will be. I was wondering if I could bond her with another rabbit during the period after her being fixed. They would be kept in separate cages, that were side by side (about 3 inches apart so they couldn’t fight). Is this a good idea, or should I just wait until she is fully healed?

If you are considering a second rabbit wait until she is spayed and fully healed and possibly consider rescuing a second rabbit from a rescue – you can take her on “dates” so she can chose for herself.

I have a 2 year old male rabbit who is neutered, I just took him to a shelter to meet some bunnies and he ‘fell in love’ with a female bunny, it was a 15-20 minute meeting at most in an x-pen. They were grooming each other by the end of the meeting. She’s unspayed but will be spayed before I take her home. The advantage for me was that I saw how they got along ahead of time. I do plan on housing them close together but separately during her recovery. This was my first bonding experience with rabbits but from what I gather it’s a good idea to see if rabbits interact initially before deciding to go through with the full bonding experience, to at least get a rough idea of how they may bond.
