Hi ,
So on Friday i noticed my 9 week old bunny Asbel’s poops were becoming less normal as the day got on, but still occasionally doing a normal poop which really confused me, After a hour he blatantly had diarrhea, I Have another Rabbit so i was aware diarrhea definitely wasn’t good, Took him to the vets and was advised no pellets just hay, he had some injections , wormer to take home, fiberplex 3 times a day and supreme science recovery incase he stopped eating , when i got him he stopped eating
I had no instructions from this particular vet how often to syringe him so i did it every 2 and a half hours through the night, he looked in a very bad shape the following morning so took him back to the vet, This time we saw someone else. He was dehydrated and cold and i felt like such a bad owner , he told me he needed to stay in for some intensive care, I burst into tears cos im moving on friday and really couldnt afford it. ( The vets is located in the pet store i got him from) The Lovely vet spoke with the manager of the pet store who agreed to pay the bill , we had to collect him at 4.30 that day as no one was there overnight. I was given instructions to syringe feed him food and water when i got home every 30 minutes and 2-3 hours thoughout the night and to keep him warm. He told me he wanted to see him when they opened the next day (yesterday) He stressed his condition is/was critical
So yesterday I took him back and he agreed he looked in better shape than saturday, Normal temp and At this point the diarrhea had stopped but no pooping , he told me no poop was better than diarrhea. He spoke to the manager of the pet store again and admitted him for another afternoon of intensive care. Picked him up and he said he wouldnt need to return tomorrow but to book an appointment to see him wednesday ( he doesnt always work there) I was advised to syringe feed him every hour and a few times throughout the night but not as often as previous. I cant thank my vet enough , His train was delayed 20 miles away and he got a taxi into work to make sure he wasnt late to treat him
Later on in the evening he did his first poop, small and mishaped but a hard poop and ive never been so happy to see poop. A couple of hours after doing his first poop he has began to eat hay again, He seems to prefer it dampened but i guess thats extra water content. He started to seem less lethargic and more his old self wanting to try and bite my bracelet again and come right up to the front of the cage to say hello whenever i was there.
Overnight he has stayed in the same condition and ive picked up a few hard mishaped poops here and there, He is still eating hay. I syringed him every 3 hours in the night. Ive been syringing him every hour today but i wondered if this was still necessary as often as he has been eating hay? He seems a lot stronger than day 1 and has got increasingly harder to syringe kicking out, but thats ok, I love feeling his strength improve
I was told its best not to give him any nuggets yet until he has seen him , being only 9 weeks no veggies.
I Know its a silly question to ask but does this mean hes recovering slowly?
Ive only had this little guy for 9 days but im smitten with him, we have really bonded and i want to do anything i can possibly do to save him
