I have two three and a half month old holland lop bunnies. My boy seems very ‘normal’ for a rabbit: he doesn’t like to leave the ground, has no interest in the stairs, and is afraid of jumping to or from a height. His sister, however, is a daredevil. She jumps in and out of the second level of her bunny condo (about 2 feet from the ground), climbs up boxes, tears up and down the stairs , climbs to the top of the couch, and recently jumped all the way up onto a chest of drawers two and a half feet high. She’s also constantly trying to escape her cage and xpen.

This isn’t ‘problem’ behavior, per se. I really enjoy her adventuresome spirit. But I am wondering if there’s anyone else whose rabbit has such a thirst for heights. If so, was this just a part of their childhood and something they grew out of by the time they reached adulthood? Or could this be her permanent personality?

Some bunnies are just climbers/jumpers! Just part of her personality.
It wouldn’t surprise me of the boy bunny starts to copy her (That happened with mine! Haha)

May I ask, are your buns housed together? I’m guessing they are not yet neutered and you don’t want to risk having babies, haha!

I’d love it if this was just part of her personality. It seems unusual but it’s very entertaining! Though it is going to be a problem if she starts being able to jump higher than her xpen (3 feet). She’s small (less than 2lbs) so it’s even more funny to watch her zoom and jump in her tiny body.

Brother and sister are not housed together right now because brother has definitely hit bunny puberty and keeps doing his best Jamie Lannister imitation. I’ve blocked off the bunny condo ramp so they each have their own floor until they can be fixed (about three weeks from now).

Awwww that’s sweet! Mine learned to jump the pen (sigh)

LOL – Jamie Lannister! :’) Good to hear they’re separated!

I liked the Jamie Lannister reference too!

Harvey is exactly the same, once he figured out how to use his legs he starting climbing and jumping on everything. At first it worried me because he has the grace of a potato so he was falling off things pretty frequently, but he’s learning about gravity so it getting better just this morning he played suicide-bunny and jumped off the back of the couch. He LOVES the stairs – when he first discovered them he would sprint up and down them at top speed, until one day he sprinted up, and as he’s coming down I heard “thump thump thu- TUMBLE TUMBLE TUMBLE”. Now he sprints up at top speed and veeeery carefully crawls down

Awww, poor Harvey! That tumble down the stairs must have been bad. Gizmo is suspicious of the stairs and won’t try them but Gadget adores them. They both run a bit inside the xpen, and because my floors are laminate, they occasionally don’t apply their brakes soon enough and crash into the cage/wall. They haven’t seriously hurt themselves yet, so I just let them have at it (or whip out the phone and film it!).

It sounded pretty bad and I got really worried because I didn’t hear any movement once he reached the bottom, so I raced over to check on him. Little turd sprinted between my legs, binkying all the way
