Enki is in pretty bad shape. Not only has his ongoing illness 10000x worse but now he is completely paralyzed other than his front legs and he has been barely able hold his head up on his own.

He has been at the vet for a few days. He is on oxygen pretty much all of the time as well as having his sinuses flushed to attempt to combat the amount of mucus he is producing. He is completely confined to a small cage so that he doesn’t have to move far to food and water. He still eats like a little pig and is able to drink on his own. He has no bladder or bowel control at all so someone is constantly cleaning up after him.

I went to see him this morning and he still tried to crawl/drag himself into my lap when they put him on the floor. So I sat and held him until his breathing became labored and he needed more oxygen. He is responding a little to the medications they have him on. Previously the day after I took him in he was not able to hold his head up for more than a second before it would drift to the left causing him to fall over to his side and now he is able to hold it up as long as he is ‘interested in something’ like a treat or someone talking to him and he can right himself before to prevent tipping over.

The medication is helping with his head control and he is able to kind of tuck his feet under him instead of them just sticking out behind him. He still can’t hop or crawl he just drags himself. But his breathing is getting progressively worse. If you watch him when he is not on oxygen first he will be breathing extremely fast and then it will get slower and slower until he is breathing so loudly you can hear him in another room.

It is a strange thing to see him sitting in one spot with a modified oxygen mask strapped to his face instead of him zooming from one spot to the next all day long.

Oh dear, I thought Enki was doing better. Poor little thing. I don’t know what to say Sonn. You’ve been having such a rough time with bunnies lately.

I’ve been having a tough time with pets in general this year. My oldest dog passed away not long ago from old age/cancer and I just found out Friday that my now oldest dog has lung/mammary/skin cancer she already suffers from mental disabilities as well as diabetes. Her outlook is good though since all three have been caught in the beginning stages. And my younger dog (well he is older but he is still the young-ish) has terrible arthritis in both of his back hips to the point that he will likely need a cart within the next year or two. Plus my youngest dog was left with a pet sitter who just happened to leave her gate open and so she has essentially vanished with sporadic sightings of her around town in which she is already gone by the time I get there. People are afraid to catch her because she is a huge intimidatingly looking American Bulldog even though she doesn’t know the meaning of the word stranger and if I didn’t see her eat I wouldn’t think she has teeth.

Enki was doing fantastic he was literally hopping around and zooming around the house mere hours before everything just seemed to hit him all at once.

Sonn, I’m so sorry you and Enki are going through this. Both of you are definitely due a break! Hopefully the meds and oxygen will work quickly and Enki will be doing zoomies again soon. Poor little guy deserves to get well and stay well. He’s earned it!

I’m sorry about your rabbit I hope there’s a breakthrough soon! And I hope you get your dog back! I’ve worked with dogs for a long time and American Bulldogs are some of the sweetest! All about the cuddles!!! I think when people see them, they think they’re pit bulls and of course everyone thinks that every bully looking breed is violent . Most people don’t realize how short in stature pitties actually are! My lab that just turned 8 has awful arthritis as well and our older dog has cancer too, l so I definitely know how you feel I just try to make them happy and hang out with them as much as possible!!! Hope everything starts looking better soon!!!

Most people who meet my dog think she is either a Pit or a Boxer. My dog that passed was half Pit half German Shepherd and she was tiny she took more after the Pit except her coloring. Bully breeds are my favorite breeds they are all smiley and wiggly and cuddly. The snappiest dogs I have met have been yorkies and maltese. Working at a vets office 99% of the time those are the two breeds I have been bitten by the most.

It’s definitely an adjustment going from running and hiking and swimming with my dogs to them barely walking down the street and back. But I am happy just to chill with them in the yard. My oldest male dog still has a ton of energy and he is super healthy so most of the time it is just me and him in the woods my AB would rather hang out in the kiddie pool.

I trust my vets and believe that they provide my pets with the best care possible. Enki’s vet is making sure he is comfortable and he is in a quiet area away from a lot of noise and people.

Sonn I’m so very sorry to hear that Enki is doing do poorly right now. Is it just the E.C. causing all this or has he had some sort of reaction? Is the bicillin all he is getting or are they using a cover antibiotic?
I’m sure your vets are doing all they can. Is there any possibility of using something like bisolvon (a decongestant used in the UK) in a nebulizer to help him clear the snot? I’m concerned he may be brewing pneumonia and getting those airways clear will no doubt lift his spirits and make him more comfortable. Poor bub.

I’m also sorry to hear of all the difficulties and sadness with your doggies. My gosh there’s nothing worse than one of them wandering. The few times Shadow broke loose I feared for his life because he was so huge and wolfish…I had nightmares someone would shoot first and ask questions later. Of course he’s been gone four years and now I have a Yorkie but she really is the sweetest thing and has never laid a tooth on me…what few she has left anyway.

I really hope Enki will be better soon. Prayers going for him.

                        How’s your thumb?

I can’t remember the name of it but they are using a medication in a nebulizer for him as well. It helps a little but the amount of mucus he is producing is shocking. A broad spectrum antibiotic is being used.

The EC is causing the paralysis and the ‘wandering head’ as his vet put it. But the mucus has been happening since he was a baby. So far his lungs are clear of any fluid.

I had a big huge German Shepherd when I was younger but he looked more like a wolf with his coloring and when he would bolt out of my door people would completely freak out.

My thumb is sore but overall not completely gross.

Mimzy was my snot bunny for most of his life. We never really found out why but of course he’s had head tilt now he doesn’t seem to have that many nasal episodes. I had him constantly on benadryl during his worst times and baytril became his best friend. We did try the Pen-G injections for awhile but my OH had to do them as I couldn’t manage it. How I gave sub q fluids for the first two months of his tilt I will never know, but I finally bled him at the end just before he started drinking on his own again and that was it for me! To think I’d wanted to be a nurse when I was little. Ha! (eyeroll)
I’ll just keep those vibes and prayers going for Enki. He is such a sweetie and has really been through the wars. (((((((Vibes)))))))

I can relate to the large dog scaring the **** out of neighbors. Our few visitors nicknamed Shadow “Chewbacca”…and up until his last few years he had the booming bark and shaggy fur to fit the metaphor. I really miss him. Besides being a great companion he was a heck of a watchdog and I never felt afraid with him on premises. He was a bit hard to handle though when it came to walks as you can imagine. :-/ I’m only 5’4″ and when he stood up he was more than half my size.

I would say please give Monty a cuddle from me but I don’t want you injured further. He’s quite a little package isn’t he?
                            Thinking of you all. xx

“Quite a little package”! Sonn, from what all you’ve told us about Monty, I think that pretty much sums him up! Quite a little FURRY and cute package!

Enki was diagnosed with something awhile back but I seem to have lost his folder when I moved and cannot for the life of me remember what it was. He has been on every medication that the culture said it was sensitive to plus some that were not on the list but nothing works. Marbofloxacin worked the best until he seemed to build up and immunity to it.

I don’t have an issue giving injections. My dog has been on insulin injections since she was a puppy and I’ve made her bleed more than once because she likes to wait right before getting injected to kick her feet out. And I’ve given fluids to hundreds to drop offs and foster cats and dogs at my house. Plus if I am going to be a vet I better know how to give them lol.

My oldest male dog has the nickname “White ghost” by my neighbors. He is by no means huge he weighs 42lbs. But when he barks you would swear a giant dog was near you and he is super sneaky. You will think you are alone and then turn around and there he stands. I have to keep him leashed most of the time when we are outside or he goes on his own little adventure. He does great in the woods with his recall but not in the yard. But he is mostly toothless and loves people so they aren’t as afraid of him as my AB. The one they aren’t afraid of is the one that is most likely to rip their face off given the chance he is a Pomeranian/Dachshund/Chihuahua mix. His nickname is Pig (I don’t even think he remembers his real name lol) since even though he is a mix of small dogs he is knee high and weighs 40lbs and looks like a red hairy tootsie roll. He hates people and hates any animal not in his pack.

Can little furry cute packages have razor fangs???? If so then yes that is an accurate description of Monty. He’s all cute and fluffy sitting on a rug right now but I know he is taunting me with his untouchable fluffiness.
