Our soon-to-be new bun (Berry) is currently only getting unlimited hay and pellets (no idea how much per day yet).  His current mom says that he used to get veggies and loved kale but hasn’t had any in a long time.  He is 3 yrs old. How do I start giving him greens? What do I start with? Should he get more pellets than Lola (they are about the same size) since he doesn’t get veggies?

When you bring him home, I would slowly decrease pellets until he only gets 1/8-1/4 cup a day, and start introducing in veggies. The best would be lettuce, parsley, or kale (since he had that before). Give him a little piece to start and slowly build it up.

I think it would be safe to start him when you get him – maybe give him a week to settle in. Start with the kale since you know he loved that!

I think since they aren’t bonded yet, feed him the first week what his current mom is feeding him, the next week start the veggies and start reducing the pellets.

i agree with LEL. Since he hasn’t had veggies in quite a while best to introduce slowly just like you would a bun who has never had them. Good luck! I’m sure he’ll be so happy to be getting yummy veggies again.

Lucky guy to be getting a home with a healthier diet. Good luck transitioning him.
