My bunnies have unlimited 2nd cut timothy hay and sometimes orchard grass hay as well. I’ve been occasionally giving them oat hay lately. . .

For those of you who give your bunnies oat hay,

Do your bunnies eat the tops and “stalks” or just the tops?

How many oat hay tops (clusters of seed heads) is too many?

Most of the seed heads in my oat hay are greenish (young oat hay as opposed to mature). One of my buns is 1 year old and the others are 11 months old. Is the young oat hay ok for them? They don’t seem to be having any problems, in fact, they seem to poop more after they’ve had oat hay tops.

Is it just my buns, or are oat hay tops super tasty to bunnies? Mine will pass by salad for these things.

        Thanks!

My buns love the oat hay seeds as well. They eat all those first. Actually, the BB store sells oat hay seed heads as treats and sometimes I will sprinkle those on their Timothy hay.

I can’t imagine that too many is a bad thing. It’s a grass hay so not fattening and offers fibre.

The tops are the best part.
