I am thinking (theoretically at the moment) of how i will accommodate any bunnies i would bring in to my home.i had a bunny which passed away a little while ago and i think i will be getting bunnies again i just need some info on living quarters and such.
could you tell me how big a rabbit cage has to be for 2 rabbits (probably holland lops). And how tall Holland lops are fully erect while standing so i know how high to build each level? i plan to build a “nic condo”. About 4 cubes (56″) from side to side 4 cubes (56″) high and 3 cubes (42″) front to back with 3 floors (would it still be big enough if i build it 2 cubes from front to back?). the floors will be made with the cubes as a base.corrugated plastic as a solid floor and fleece fabric for traction.also my last bun had a few problems that we couldn’t track down before he passed on what it was. and even though i cleaned the area around where he was and i am gonna build a new cage i still want to disinfect the area for just measure. how would i go about that with out bleach?

White vinegar is the best… I would take everything outside and give it a good scrub with warm water and bicarb, then wipe down well with white vinegar and hose off then leave in direct sunlight for an hour or two to dry off properly.

There is a disinfectant called Virkon S that’s used for stables, it’s rabbit safe and kills most pathogens (bacteria, viruses, fughi, yeast) if not all. It’s a tablet or a powder you dissolve in water. It has no smell.

White vinegar will probably do just fine though.

For 2 bunnies, you need 16 square feet of floor space as an absolute minimum.4×3 in cubes is around 15 square feet, if you can possibly go any bigger, do that, if not, just give them extra out time. As far as height, I would give at least 2 feet so they can stand up and periscope easily.
