So I just got a bunny named Frank and I put a plastic hiding igloo in his cage. However, the past few days he seemed to have grown a lot and doesn’t go in too much. Occasionally he would go in if there is a thunder storm or loud noise etc. My problem is he keeps flipping it over and changing its location all over the cage and the cage is not big enough for him to do that. My question is, can I take the igloo out completely? or a bunny has to have one?

Igloos – no they don’t have to have them – I wouldn’t recommend this at all – it’s more for a guinea pig.

I do think that you probably don’t have a large enough cage either if the cage is not large enough for him to flip the igloo around – what size is your cage?

It is big enough for him to lay in and use the litter box, and eat, etc. I let him out most of the days in my room so I didn’t get a bigger one. I was just wondering if a rabbit needs a hiding place within the cage when he is inside.

              Oh and the size of the cage is about 6.4″ L X 31″ W X 18.4″ H

I’m not sure if it was a typo or not, if the cage is 6.4 inches by 31 inches that makes it half a foot by two and a half feet, which is far far far to small.

However if it is 64 inches by 31 it is fine!

The recommended size for a rabbit cage is 8 square feet (it needs to be 3 times the size of your rabbit when lying down and completely stretched out)

This site has awesome habitat ideas!! I recommend an xpen.

To answer your question about a hidey, it is super recommended because rabbits are prey animals and need somewhere to hide when feeling threatened. I however don’t like the igloos, they’re too small on my opinion and light enough to be flipped over.
Most rabbits also like having a hidey with 2 exit holes, so they don’t feel trapped.

                I hope this helps!! ?

yes 64 inches! lol. I am not the kind to abuse little buns like that haha. I’ll definitely look into a bigger cage.

Ox suggests the Mini Maze Haven from the BB store.

He seriously loves that thing. During the day (his main snooze time) I will rarely see him come out of the haven. His addiction got even worse when I added some old t-shirts to the bottom level and he was able to customize his man den. lol

I’m not surprised that Frank doesn’t love the igloo. Rabbits tend to like hidey holes with multiple exits and entrances.
