My fiance and I got speedy, a mini lop 9 months ago from the humane society. Hes amazing but I think different than most bunnies cuz he loves petting and eating but doesn’t play/binky hes a very chill bun but hes also 6. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body so when we decided to get him a friend there never was any fighting when our new 5yr old Netherland dwarf got bratty or territorial. She will occasionally nip/chase him but it doesn’t seem very aggressive. They both have groomed each other but idk if they’re tasting residual banana from like 4 days ago. My girl, lola is the dominant one as we knew she would be. She tries to hump speedy but he runs away. Tonight they were given a playpen that allowed free range to both their cages and lola and speedy spent most of the time in his cage grazing but later I put her back in her cage and pushed their cages together since I’m going to bed. My question is when are they bonded and if they’re bonded and i didn’t know it yet will it damage their relationship if they’re in their own cage even if it’s right next to each other? I’m just not sure exactly where they are in the bonding process and I don’t want to mess anything up. When do I know it’s safe to leave them together? I plan on doing a large playpen for their new permanent home. Thank you and sorry for the long post

If they aren’t having brawls they are bonded in my books Bonded pairs will communicate, by nipping or making a face like they will nip or even humping. If they aren’t harassing each other, aren’t having all out fights that you must break up, if they can eat together, lay together, groom and seem relaxed then they are bonded. I guess basically all rabbits will have a little tif, but if you need to be there to stop it, or if they chase until you stop it; then they aren’t bonded. But from what you describe, they sound good to go. If you decide to consider them bonded and leave them together unsupervised, try to do it when you are home for a weekend so you can hear if things go wrong; Then you have two supervised days under your belt before they are left alone
