        Hi Guys,

Long time frequenter of the forum, first time poster. Benny’s eye suddenly looks really irritated tonight. I noticed a bit of leakage yesterday, and today when I went to check up on him he seems to have a bit of white crust stuck at the bottom of his eye. Here’s the best picture my cell phone could take: http://i.imgur.com/WxDH0py.jpg

I’ll be calling his Vet tomorrow to see if he can schedule us in, but in the mean time I’m just gonna worry about him. Has anyone seen anything like this before and has any idea what it could be? I’m just really worried they’re going to have to take out my poor baby’s eye or something. I hope I’m just being paranoid! He’s eating and behaving normally otherwise.

He’s a 4 year old mini lop and he has a bunny sister around the same age, she is looking fine.

How did it go at the vet ? It was possibly just some irritation or a mild infection so hopefully only drops were required…

I can’t see much in the pic. Where is the irritation? Around the eye, the nictating membrane (third eyelid), the eye itself? I’m wondering if he got something in his eye, like a piece of hay.

I don’t think the vet visit went over to well. A while ago I switched vet’s from UPenn over to a place that was much closer and after our second semi-emergency visit I’m starting to think he isn’t very rabbit savvy. He told me it was either an infection or a backed up tear duct. He gave me this anti-bacterial cream (Neoycin, Polymyxin, and Dexamethasone?) to put in his eye 3 times a day. He said if I wanted drops we would have to order them and it would take a week to get here, but he wants to see him again in 10 days after we’ve tried the cream and if it hasn’t cleared out he wants to see if we can sedate him and flush his eye. I think I’m just going to have to take him to back to UPenn.

It appears to be the third eyelid? It does look better today, but Sunday night he really scared me. The white liquid flooded down his eye and I had to rinse it out for him.

It could be an injury to the third eyelid. Wooly had this happen. I will definitely say that cream is next to impossible to get into the eye. LOL Drops work much better.

I would go back to the other vet to make sure that that is what is really wrong. You want to make sure he is getting the appropriate treatment.
