Hiya everyone!  It’s been too long!!

A few days ago someone had posted on Facebook about there being a loose pet bunny in the area, and I (Annette) contacted the person to see if she wanted help in catching it.   She called this morning and I went over, about half an hour later I had this sweetheart in a carrier.  She’s now at the local humane society, partly just in case someone has lost her and is looking for her and mostly because she’s got a pretty nasty ear infection. That and, if we do decide to adopt her, they’ll give her a thorough health check and spay her and frankly the cost of adoption is less than doing that ourselves.

Anyone have any thoughts on breed?  I know it’s hard to really get an idea of size from the pictures but she’s probably about as big as most of my cats. It’s an odd time of year for an adult bunny to be set loose but would be consistent with an adolescent “Easter” bunny that’s gotten too big, so I’m wondering if she’s possibly got some New Zealand or Flemmie in her?

(those are hay cubes with her in the last pic)

        — Annette

          Good to see you :~)

I agree about her looking like a Flemmie. She’s pretty.

            I would say flemmie too.
What a beautiful girl! Than you for rescuing her!

I’m hoping we’ll be able to adopt her. The timing isn’t great, we’re out (separately) out of town for bits over the next week or so (we have a pet sitting coming to stay with the house and bunnies). I’m thinking that once they’re satisfied an owner isn’t coming to get her (which they only allow 1 day for in the case of rabbits) they’ll still have to treat her ears and spay her before approving her for adoption, so hopefully the timing will work out. I’ve left my name as being interested in adopting her so I should get first right to her.
I’ve always wanted a flemmie. Kaylee (New Zealand White) was the biggest bunny we’ve had and she was so full of life and personality and rabbitude, and I really miss her.

                Nice to hear from you

Thanks for helping that bunny! What a big, beautiful girl. I definitely see “Flemmie” when I look at her.

Hope you get to adopt her! I bet she will be a total cuddle bug!!

No idea! LOL! Just wanted to say good for you – I have never shared this on BB before (I live in Queensland, Australia – bunny’s are illegal to own) and I caught a bunny in my front yard about 15 years ago. I knew it was someone’s pet (it was white with grey ears and tail) so did the neighbour door knock with no luck (maybe to scared to own up?), so LUCKY ME – I kept him (her?) and was furious when my hubby left the gate open and ‘Petey’ got away (I was SO upset!). Not that I think Petey surviving on his/her own was fortunate, but since learning all that I know now (thanks to the internet and BB) I know that living with me was no better, I only fed him vegetables – no hay or pellets and let him outside everyday in my secure yard (IF the gate isn’t left open!). I still think of him to this day (naturally) and have 2 treasured photo’s of him (and my 26yo daughter still has scars from the scratches trying to pick him up – who thought of nail trimming??? Lol!).
It is so lovely that not only did you help catch him – you want to give him a home, you bought all my memories back, thank you and thank you! And what a cutie he is, no wonder you want to keep him. Cheers Annette.
PS – If that’s you in the pic, LOVE your hair! Oh, and I hope his ear heals quickly (poor baby).

Edit to ADD – Sorry Annette, I must have BOY bunny’s on my brain  my apologies for referring to your (finger’s and toes crossed) bun as a he not a ‘she’, ooops!

I think she has ear mites which will be easily treatable.

Annette is that you in the photo? It’s so good to finally see you.

Yes that is me – it’s not the best picture of me but that’s me!

Selfishly I’m not just hoping that no one claims her (which I doubt will happen) but I’m also hoping her ears take a little while to treat. It’s going to be a week before either of us can go pick her up and I don’t think the humane society is going to be willing to hold her for me for that long, but with the ear treatment and spaying maybe that will delay her “approved for adoption” date!

It was very interesting taking her in, I initially dealt with one person that I hadn’t seen before, and then a few minutes later another one came in and saw the bunny first, and then noticed that I was with it and said “You’re one of our fosters!”. Nice to be recognized, lol.

Hi, you guys! So good to hear from you Annette. Was wondering the same thing as Sarita, is that you?

I read your post and was saying to myself “yep, that’s Annette going off to rescue a bunny for someone.” Sounds like great timing for you for clearing up health issues etc. I’m guessing it’s a Flemmie mixed with something else, since unlikely a pure breed. I think you will only know a year from now when she stops growing.
Since the bigger ones seems to have sweet, laid back temperaments (despite our protests that size does not determine personality) I’d say you have the makings of a gentle giant on your hands. Hope you get her.

Ah hour and a half to catch her.   Wow.  You 2 really persisted.  Great that you caught her.  She does look big.  Sweet.

You are pretty.    You may just get her.  With her recovering from spay and ear treatment you just might.  And since one of the employees recognized you.  May all be in your favor.  Sure hope so.  You will make a wonderful bun parent.

What a big precious girl! I know at my local shelter back home, bunnies tend to stay for months upon months, especially if they are regarded as having “plain” colors (is there such a thing for a bunny?!)

So good of you to rescue her, and I do hope that she has found a forever home with you!

Hey there, Annette here! Just wanted to post an update:
The little honey bunny did indeed turn out to have ear mites. She’s being treated for them, and was spayed last week, and is currently in a foster home. Unfortunately both Scooter and I were out of town last week so there’s no way we could foster her but I am on the list as having first right to adopt her. She’ll apparently be ready for adoption on July 4!

Glad she is being treated for the mites, and that her spay went well.
                                How exciting!
