HI! I AM A FIRST TIME BUNNY “OWNER” AND WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE COULD PLEASE HELP US OUT WITH AN ISSUE? AND THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

MY BUNNY IS ABOUT 14 WEEKS OLD AND HAS DEVELOPED THIS SITUATION OVER THE PAST WEEK. IT HAS GOTTEN SLOWLY BUT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE, BUT HER APPETITE, POOP ETC. ARE NORMAL. ON HER FRONT FOOT AND THEN A BACK FOOT, SHE HAS LOST HAIR, AND THE AREA SEEMS TO BE A LITTLE MORE RED THAN IT SHOULD BE, THOUGH HER SKIN IS PINK AS SHE’S MOSTLY WHITE. IT DOESN’T SEEM TO BE FLAKING SKIN, AND SEEMS POSSIBLY A LITTLE SWOLLEN BUT HARD TO TELL. SHE SEEMS TO BE ITCHING MORE THAN IN THE PAST, BUT NOT ESPECIALLY ON THE AFFECTED AREAS. A FEW TIMES, ALL OF A SUDDEN SHE’S ‘GOTTEN A WILD HARE’ AND RUN BACK AND FORTH AND ALL AROUND AS FAST AS SHE CAN, JUMPING AND TWISTING A LITTLE BIT, ALMOST AS IF HER BODY IS ITCHING AND SHE’S EXASPERATED OR SOMETHING. ALSO, SHE WILL TOSS HER HEAD SOMETIMES.

I KEEP HER AREA CLEAN AND HAVEN’T BATHED HER, NOR HAS SHE HAD ACCESS TO ANY POSSIBLE IRRITANTS. I ENCLOSED A LITTLE AREA IN MY BACK YARD AND LET HER PLAY OUT THERE SEVERAL TIMES, BUT MY BACK YARD IS RELATIVELY CLEAN- I SIT IN THE GRASS , AS DO MY DOGS AND WE’VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM, -HOWEVER, MY BEST THEORY THUS FAR IS RINGWORM OR SOME OTHER FUNGUS??

I WILL BEGIN TREATING WITH AN ANTIFUNGAL (TERBINAFINE) IF NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT THIS. IF THAT DOESN’T WORK, I WILL HAVE TO FIND AN EXOTIC VET, BUT AM HOPING TO AVOID THAT AT THIS POINT.

HAS ANYONE EVER ENCOUNTERED SOMETHING LIKE THIS,OR HAVE ANY ADVICE?? BUN AND I WOULD SINCERELY APPRECIATE YOUR INPUT!  THANK YOU SO MUCH!

        -LAURA

The running around sounds like normal happy bunny behavior. I don’t think it has anything to do with the issue you are describing. Can you take a picture of what you’re talking about? It sounds like it might just be calluses which is not a big problem and doesn’t require treatment unless it becomes a sore.

I wouldn’t treat your bunny with anything until you know what the issue is. If there is a medical problem there really isn’t an alternative to seeing a vet.

I just saw the pic on your profile of his foot. I’m not sure what that is but it’s not a callus like I was thinking originally. I really think you should seek out a vet.

Is the picture you posted in your profile a picture of the issue? This doesn’t look like normal callusing. It could be a variety of things, and since you don’t know what it is, I would go straight for the vet and not attempt anything yourself.
              Good luck, keep us updated!
