I recently got my newest addition to the family 2 months ago and noticed that she usually has her lips open.  We took her to the vet for a check up and her teeth are perfect.  She is able to close her mouth fully when she wants to but it looks like she has her lips opened when she is relaxed.  Does anyone have any experience with this or know why bunnies do this?

I’ve had some rabbits that do this – don’t really know the reason, but I don’t think I’d be too concerned if the vet isn’t.

If the vet says it’s ok, I would think it would be too. The only medical reasons I can think she would do this would be tooth issues or that she couldn’t breathe through her nose for some reason. If you have ruled both of those out, I wouldn’t be concerned.

Thank you both for such speedy responses. I think she can breath through her nose because she doesn’t open her mouth all the time and she uses her nose to sniff out food. Probably just a heavy bottom lip hehe

Not sure, but what cute little lips! Like Sarita said, if the vet checked her out, I wouldn’t worry.
