Let me start with this – I know this is my fault!

My flemish giant, Lola, has been well behaved lately, and I’ve been letting her run unsupervised for a little bit at a time.  So I decided to let her have the run of her room for a bit, and she tore up a huge chunk of the carpeting, padding and all.  I was initially concerned that she had eaten it, but she left a huge pile of the rug, and it’s been a few days and she’s been acting normal.

I’m mostly posting beause I’m so frustrated and need to share.

I will be patching the carpet and then rabbit proofing before I let her go unsupervised anymore!

You can always try putting a hay mat or bend a bridge over that. In my experience rabbits like chewing and digging at select spots.

What are you doing to “rabbit proof” it?

I have extra carpet, so I will patch it first. I may have to put tile over it, as it’s right in the corner behind the door, so I can’t put too much there, or we won’t be able to open or close the door

Oh yes my buns go for the corners. I put a big ‘cooling tile’ on it just for them! They think it’s for them but really it’s for my carpets sake :p

Yep it is a corner expect it to be ripped again, mine is the same way. Luckily for me she does the acts in her area so I just put hay matts all over the place. (Oh and bend a bridge)

A cheap alternative is a phone book-gives them something to shred besides the floor!

I agree, covering the spot with something heavy is sometimes the only way to deter them from a particular spot. Mine love having a phone book, just be prepared for the mess. LOL

She has a phone book, and she only likes it a little, but I can definitely try it there.
But like I said, it’s behind a door, so if I put something as big as a phonebook there, the door won’t open.
I did manage to patch the carpet though. It isn’t perfect, but better than torn up carpet. And I’m pretty impressed with how handy I am! Lola wasn’t impressed though – it interrupted her nap!

A 12×12 tile would not work there? Or is there zero gap underneath the door?

You need something to cover that spot, she will go at it again.
