Hi, I have found this hutch and from what I can see I love it for a single dwarf bunny(or maybe a dutch)! Is it ok in terms of size and everything, I am Midlands(UK) so no extreme weather and I would buy the cover..

        http://www.therabbithutchcompany.co.uk/catalog/product/view/id/67/s/the-coach-house-6ft-rabbit-hutch/category/16/

Also, does anybody know anything about the company?

        Thanks! x

Generally it looks really nice, and unless I’m getting the exchange rate wrong, a pretty good price.

I do have some concerns though. The ceiling on both levels is not very high, so if you have a tall bunny s/he might have trouble periscoping. There needs to be enough room for bunny to stand all the way up on his/her hind legs.

My other concern is that the floor may be wire.

Thanks! The floor is not wire or that would be a no-no. Yes that is what I thought about the height of each level, so thanks for picking that up. It would be for a dwarf lop(I hope). But, is the 6ft x 2ft(with 2ft levels) hutch size ok for a single dwarf lop/dutch, in general? x

              Yes it is big enough.
But I see in your other post you were going to keep bunny outdoors because you heard that’s what’s best, but your bunny would have a much better life indoors, so maybe you could consider that before buying an outdoor hutch.

That is a very nice hutch and looks like a lot of space for your bun. Also, you know you can have the hutch indoors and have your bun live inside with you! Pepper has a really nice 2 story hutch that she uses her litterbox, eats and sleeps in and we have it in the living room and guests have often commented on what a nice piece of furniture it is. Plus when I run he vacuum pep likes to go upstairs and give me the stink eye through her door as she munches on her hay, lol!

The hutch features “pull out drawers for easy cleaning” so it most likely has wire flooring. ( he drawers catch what falls through the wire grates which is what makes it easy cleaning)

I could be wrong but I would call the company first.  If you decide to keep your bunny inside with you and you don’t want to make a NIC condo, check out the condos/houses at leithpetwerks.com.  I have a NIC condo as well as xl dog crates so haven’t purchased their condos, but have ordered their ramps to use in my condo.  I’ve also purchased a number of other things from them.  The owner is very helpful.

They are going to be living outdoors, not indoors! It does not have a wire base as if you look at the last picture the trays are pulled out and when you zoom in you can see the plastic. But thanks everyone!

Also, I have decided that I would like a mini lop and as the issue of the low celiling has been raised, how do you think that this particular species would be with the low ceiling? Thanks x

I agree on the wire floors. the trays when they pull out the draws are what hold the waste, but the wire won’t come out with it. The fact there are no images or mention of the floors makes me suspicious, too. People who know rabbits will make a big deal about their cages not having wire bottoms. I’d encourage the bunny to be indoors, or at least in a semi-indoor area like a garage. Weather may not be a big concern, but predators are.

“pull out drawers for easy access”… Kidding of course, kind of, a raccoon might actually figure it out.

Seriously though, I’ve never seen a hutch with pull out drawers that doesn’t have wire as flooring over it. We have such a hutch and it came with a wire insert (we took it out). Think about it, if it didn’t have the wire, pulling out the drawers would leave a giant hole in the floor for the rabbit to hop out of. Unless they planned this hutch to cause you to have to chase your bunnies all over the place every time you clean, this would be a MAJOR design flaw. I know there’s no wire noticeable in the pictures but it’s almost certainly there.

Is there a reason why they can’t stay indoors?

It really is much better for a rabbit to live inside. Here is one page regarding that. http://rabbit.org/why-to-keep-your-rabbit-indoors/

That page doesn’t even mention all of the bad things related to living outdoors, such as parasites and fly strike.

I really need to agree with the others. Consider having your rabbit indoors, or at least partially indoors. You could have a lovely outdoor play area for daytime and nice, mild weather, but bring the bun inside in bad weather (lower than 50 degrees, higher than 80 degrees), and when it is stormy or very windy.

If you’re not able to do indoors at all, and you do not currently have a rabbit, I would reconsider getting a rabbit at this time. Wait until circumstances change and you can provide the bunny with he/she needs.

This is Pepper’s EXACT house, in fact this is who I got it from and there are NO wire floors. The top floor does have the wooden framed tray that pulls with removable plastic pieces to clean and there is absolutely no wire over the plastic, which is the main reason we got this one for her. Upstairs is where Pepper’s litter box and hay feeder is located and she goes up there and stretches out on the plastic sometimes when it is warm in the house, I think it is cool for her. And the bottom floor has no floor, she has her bed on the bottom that she sleeps in and is a very clean rabbit with good litter box habbits and isn’t a digger so she’s fine and super comfy on the bare carpet

Yes, that hutch is great, but why can’t you bring them indoors? There are many predators that can potentially harm your rabbits. Many things can frighten them outside, and indoors can enable you to spend more time and form a closer bond with your bunny.

Whatever your reason for having Pepper outside, it sounds like you are considering all the angles or you wouldn’t be writing to us. Just make sure you get him out periodically and keep him clean. I don’t believe those cages, nice as they look, have great reviews. I believe they fall apart sometimes, need replacement parts and may basically be ok to get you started, but long term I don’t think you’re going to have it hold up. The price is good. I’m not sure what predators you would have to worry about in the UK. One thing to think about is I think the bottom sits right on the ground, which seems good for awhile, but A) the bunny will poop there unless he’s neutered and litter trained. That will be hard to clean off the grass unless you can move the cage periodically and B) the rabbit will likely dig his way out. Peppers a cutie and well named!

@ Megabunny, I think you are tiny bit confused my friend, MY rabbit is Pepper, and she IS an indoor rabbit, and her hutch is in our living room and all she does in it is sleep at night, eat, and poop, lol! Otherwise she is a free range bun, and she lives inside with me and my family. I was just posting a link for the original poster, which is not me, lol, about the hutch we have inside because it is very nice, very roomy and quite pleasant to look at, is well made and sturdy and has no wire floors which is why I was recommending it to the OP so they can keep their bun inside as it would be in their best interest And thank you, my daughters named her because she is black like pepper, and her middle name is actually Batman! Pepper Batman McPherson! Lol! She got named by the kids, so that’s her name!

Wow! That’s a mouthful! I loved giving long names like that to my pets when I was a kid. Now I’m much more simple. Gus. Jane. Ha ha. Anyway, WHOEVER has their rabbit going outside, hope it goes well

Before reading anyone’s replies I got the picture up and my first thought/concern was height too. My Henry is a mini lop and when we made his house (he’s free range, so why we bothered? ha ha ha ha….) we made it 100cm high to accommodate him periscoping. So if your buns are to be outdoors and live in the enclosure 24/7, as lovely as it looks it’s something I personally couldn’t consider. I feel just awful – sorry Hamsterz4Life, but I have to agree, maybe wait till your in a position to have a bunny indoors? Seriously, there is nothing better than a house bunny, and trust me – you’ll worry less and in turn enjoy your bunny more (I HATE worrying, lol!). Cheers Hamsterz4Life.

Yes, yes it is lol, and our little boy bun that we are currently bonding to her that we got a few months ago is named Dio, just Dio, the hubs named him after Ronnie James Dio of coarse, the hubs is a major 80’s rock/heavy metal fan so his name is much more simple! And I hope the OP changes their mind and keeps the babies inside, they are such good house pets once you get them potty trained and spayed/neutered.
