I’m just curious if we are as crazy as we think.  Didn’t see anything similar around so I shall ask…

Are there any other households with MORE then four rabbits?

And I’m not talking about rescues, or fostering. I mean anyone else out there who has more then four permanent residents of the hoppy variety.  And if so I’d love to hear about them!  Most people I’ve seen around (in my limited time here) seem to just have one or two buns, with a few with three or four.

People already think we are strange around here as our one rabbit has exploded into 9 rabbits total in the household, 7 belong to me and my fiancee while my brother has 2.  Its not unusual around here for people to have a large number of rabbits but they aren’t the indoor pet variety.  So I’ve gotten a lot of weird looks when I mentioned our newest addition, my baby Flemish Giant, Voldemort.  Even the vet was a little unsure when we brought in the majority of the bunnies for a vet check, and she is a bunny person with buns of her own!

So anyway, we have  Mufasa the lionhead, Cupcakes the mutt?, Keter the Californian, Mochi the lionhead mix, Susuwatari the lionhead (mix but she got the lionhead genes!), Cheezburger the lop, and Voldemort the Flemish Giant, and my brother has Baked Alaska the Californian,  and Upelkuchen the lop.  And they are currently situated with Mufasa, Mochi and Voldemort alone (one because he is not bunny friendly, one because he isn’t fixed and one because he is just 2 mo and the only bun big enough for him not to hurt by accident is Mochi).  Cupcakes and Keter are together, Susu and Cheezburger are together, and Alaska and Upel will be together once we figure out who is a boy and who is a girl…. had a little scare so they got separated by a divider and boy are they not happy about it.

So are we really that weird?

I have 8 if you don’t take into account my rescue buns for adoption… They take the number to 13… The numbers are slowly declining.

Messy area because I took the pick when I was bonding them. I need to get a better up to date pic.

I’ve been waiting for you to add Pandora to your siggy Roberta!!! he he he…..

Yes, we have a few BBer’s with more than 4 bun’s Lita Rutherford – I only have the one, Henry. But he is besties with our 3 dog’s, does that count??? LOL! I (personally) couldn’t cope with another bun – I can’t take the chance I’d end up with another one of HIM, Henry is so mischievous! (If I had of had Henry before I had kid’s, I would be child free! HA HA HA!). Good on you Lita Rutherford – and NO, I don’t think your ‘weird’ for having so many bunnies, I think you just have more energy than me…. he he heh he.

Edit to ADD – If that’s messy MD, I’m never showing you a picture of MY dining room…..

For a while there, I had three, about to get a forth. Now I have two, getting a third eventually.

I used to have about 12 rabbits when I first joined the BB Forum and now am down to 1 and I have to say I’m a better rabbit parent and a better person with just one.

I won’t be getting anymore and Bobby is perfectly fine on his own. Of course I am getting up in age and just don’t have the energy I used to have.

We started with 2 about a week ago. I am exhausted already! But i still keep talking about how great it would be to have more. seems like these two love each other so much they should have a few more friends. That won’t happen for a few years if at all, but I can only imagine the more the merrier!

I did have 3 until I lost my beloved Stormy, now I have 2 and, if money and time were no issue, I would rescue many more. As it is, they take up a huge amount of my time since they are unbounded and have to be let out for separate play time. So I will be sticking with 2. I would love to get Bindi a buddy since I know he would like one and my female, Olivia, is very aggressive which is why they are unbounded. Bindi is very high-maintenance vet bill wise so I just can`t add another.

I am definitely envious of those of you with multiple bonded buns.

My spouse and I are maxed out at 4! Arya, Mei, Trish, and Pooka. It’s a little crazy atm because we are waiting for Pooka our 4th to be old enough to be neutered so it’s a coco-puff territory war in the house right now…yay for fertilizer?

I currently have four. I say currently because we may increase. >.> The bf and I had set a “hard” cap of having four rabbits. But if our two boys don’t end up bonding we may just take them bunny dating. But we, also, have two cats so it feels like we have more. ;P

I think you are all nuts! LOL! My three take all my time . . . as I consider getting a 4th!

Sarita – I was already up in age when my son brought home our first!

AH – I’d take a couple of Henry. I get a kick out of the rowdy ones. Marlee’s my sweet baby girl, and Miss Fussy Pants Kieko is high maintenance, but my Moshi keeps me laughing.

LPT — Save your money for the October bun!

MD – I dont feel so bad about my bunny veggie bill after seeing that salad!

I envy all if you with so many bunnies and the energy I know it takes to love and care for that many. I do not envy you all, however, at nail trimming time!

I only have the one at the moment.
                                    Though we will be adding…
The thing is… I have a small house, and 4 cats along with my flemmy.
So… I’m making my husband build me a LARGE shed (basically a tiny house) that will have windows, heat/air conditioning, a bunny living room, and a play yard just for the rabbits. Butters will remain in the main house. The plan is to get 3 more, but I may start a small rescue.

I have four, haven’t added Dozer to the siggy yet… I don’t know what I was thinking lol, they’re all unbonded but the newest is quite young and Rodan is laid back..I think I might bond them. One of mine despises other rabbits, so it’s absolute mayhem when he gets out of the bedroom… my boyfriend was literally throwing our couch trying to catch him and I was trying to keep Dozer safe from Lucky… hoping to have at least one bonded pair!

The larger bonded groups give me hope! With so many buns we are hoping we can bond as many as possible as they get fixed. (only mr. antisocial is fixed as he came from a shelter) that way we can let them be as free roam as possible. Worst case they share the room in turns, but I’d like to see them get along. The vet basically told us its not worth it to try more then a pair of buns bonded. So I am really happy to see more then two!

It is worth it to have more than 2! The dynamics of a group are amazing and oh so cute!

I now have seven in my household officially – we adopted another today!

Lita, I love vets BUT the one thing they are not trained in… is behavior The number of vets I’ve heard say this is incredibly crazy! My vet was AMAZED at my group. And I’m like but really this is not abnormal… it’s abnormal because everyone is always scared away from trying!

I totally agree with LEL, the group dynamic is simply amazing! Nothing makes me happier than seeing them interact, snuggle, munch together, just enjoying the company of each other. And it makes my life SO much easier. If I had seven single buns, I’m not sure I could handle all that work! We give attention to them all singly as well as in the group but the cleaning of SEVEN cages would be so hard and time consuming! I clean the bedroom about every 3 days and it allows me so much more time to give them all adequate attention both singly and in the group setting. I just love it !

tan- do they have their own bedroom? I thought they were only in your bedroom? or do they have free range of the condo (I think I recall you saying you had a condo..) I’m just curious how it works with seven of them!

They “share” a bedroom with us! Although it has pretty much turned into their bedroom with our bed and desk LOL. It’s ridiculous. We have one x pen that blocks off our desk so they can’t get to the wires and the bed. The rest they have. We’ve been adding stuff to their area (at the expense of our small space of course!!!!) so now they have a huge tunnel to run through as well. We built them a step up to get up to the dresser which is long so they have all of that to play on as well since we just decided to make it “their hang out spot” instead of having anything of our own on there. That’s where they are while we are at work, sleeping, etc. and then we are home and hanging out in the living room we let them hang out with us as well

I think when I measured “their space” last time, it was 12 feet by 10 feet? It helps that they’re all so small – Nora is the biggest, she’s almost 5 lbs then the Tans and Simba are all 4 and then Lacey and the new guy are 3. They will all get going in their sometimes and binky and zoom around like crazy. If they were bigger, we would have to make them free roam in the living room as well I think but it’s hard to imagine. Everyone in my rescue groups kept telling me to get a Flemish and whenever I mentioned the area they would say I wouldn’t even need to make it bigger because Flemish Giants are so lazy! But I would have just felt bad… We’ll see how they get along in the space right now when bonded. May have to give them more room. I can SEE another rabbit in their without a problem but who knows when they are actually in there. Don’t want anyone colliding during a binky!

Um, TL14, if the xpen is around the desk and bed, I think that pretty much means *you* are in the xpen! Maybe they are also letting you hang around the living room as well?

Unfortunately, LOLOLLLLLL…. this is correct. I was hoping no one would notice. LMAO. It’s SOOOOOO ridiculous! But when you have six, or seven, you just have to make sacrifices! They used to be in the dining room but people would bug them when we would have people over so the bedroom is a much better spot and we turned the area they had been using in the dining room into a bunch of cupboards and stuff from Ikea so that’s where my store all the stuff we used to have in the bedroom! Hahahahahahaha.

OYYYY. I always say they’re going to start charging us a toll every time we have to cross from the bedroom door into *our area* because as soon as you open the bedroom door, that’s ALL their spot. You have to walk through and then open the x pen door to get into our tiny little human area.

I may have more but technically you have more *pounds* of bunny and therefore more veggies. I’m DYING. Although ours is probably close to that, especially now with the seventh. So maybe I should stop laughing… my veggie bill just went up….. that just dawned on me… FML! We buy the veggies out of our own money set aside for groceries for us. Part of our dinner/food budget for the month. So when veggie prices go up, it comes out of our eating money!!!!!

Haha, that’s after they eat off the first “layer” of the salad. Here it when I first set it down. Lol. When I shop for the bunnies and I get an unfamiliar cashier they always ask me if I’m “juicing”.

I don’t know how much I feed them anymore veggie wise. I used to measure but now I just fill the container and call it good.  I think the min. for them by HRS standards is 14 cups and they get at least that.  I shop sales and summer means farmers markets (and gardener friends and family giving me FREE lettuce and Kale). On an expensive month I feed them for about $80 dollars ($20 a week) on a less expensive month it’s $50-60 ($12-15 a week).

UGH, you must know how to find those deals then! I spend between 20-30 a week in veggies! But it’s so hard to find GOOD produce for cheap in the middle of the city. That probably doesn’t help. I don’t measure anymore either, I just overflow the salad spinner. Not sure what I’m going to do when I have to add this one in! Right now I’m just making his salad separate.

I only have one in the bedroom, he is free range and mainly hangs out under the bed…he’d go berserk if I wouldn’t let him on our bed, he thinks it’s his bed. he likes to lick my boyfriends hair when he’s asleep…always cracks me up. why don’t you allow them on the bed?
and it definitely sounds like you two live in the xpen hehe

I feel the same way. My one bunny is so naughty, I couldn’t deal with two naughty buns! As for the OP, sure you’re a bit weird. All of us house rabbit owners are. .

Such a GOOD bunny! (not really – but I have to give him that) He is my ‘pee free’ bunny! LOL!

I gave him a second chance and OMG, I have never seen so much poop! He covered the whole bed then I kicked him off and he covered my mini couch I have at the end of the bed, the futon, the stairs and the floors throughout the entire basement. So much poo…
