It is now a hot and humid summer in Georgia and I am worried about fly strike. How much of a risk is it to my completely indoor rabbits? Also, what are the best ways to prevent it? Neither of my rabbits like to be wet or dirty, which I read it what attracts the flies, but what else can I do? Is there a spray I can use on them to repel the flies?

Also, please don’t post pictures of the victims of fly strike. I have seen some and they have scarred me and made me feel like there should be a world-wide quest to kill off every single fly on the planet.

I think as long as they are indoors in a clean environment, it is not a concern.

Your bunnies won’t get fly strike if they are indoors and clean. I would make sure you have screens on all your windows that you plan to open if you are concerned.

If they have clean bottoms you don’t really have to worry. I had rabbits outside in South Carolina for years and never had an issue with it. Any dirty bottoms got cleaned up right away.

It sounds like they are fine as they are. It may even be more risky to them to spray anything, so I agree that they should just stay clean, dry and indoors.

Thanks everyone! This helped soothe my fears for the summer with my buns, so thanks a ton!
