I have found a breeder in my area who takes extremely good care of her rabbits that I could get a rabbit from (I will look into adopting first) and all her rabbits are pedigrees unless stated otherwise. I was wondering how big do pedigree holland lops and mini rexes get? Is it the same as a mixed breed? I’m asking because someone on my hamster forum got a pedigree hamster and he was huge! I’m also asking because I’m not that interested in breeds that are big (Flemish giants, etc) Don’t worry though, as I stated before I will probably end up adopting

I am no expert, but I think Holland lips are around 4-6 lbs and mini-rexes get about 3-4.
Please adopt if that is in any way possible.
Can’t wait to see your new bun!

A pedigree is a certificate showing the rabbits heritage going back three generations. A pedigree is issued to show that the rabbit is pure bred at least that far back as well as showing which lines it came out of, which can mean a lot to a show breeder.

So a pedigree is sort of a guarantee that the rabbit is purebred and will meet the standard and expectation of that breed.

So whatever your breed of rabbit is, that is what you can expect from the individual, that it will be the size, conformation and basic temperment associated with that breed.

purebred holland lops should be between 3 and 4 pounds. Ocassionally a doe will get a bit over 4.

mini rex top out at 4.5 pounds, with the tendency to be over 4. The occassional doe slightly over 4.5 pounds. Of course those are sizes for fit animals. Any rabbit can get overweight and be heavier, but their “size” and in height and length will be the same.

Holland lops (purebred) range from 2.5 lbs to 4 lbs with the avg being closer to 3.5 lbs they are bred to look chunky but not be heavy. Pet quality from a breeder should fall in the same sizes just not have the “perfect” features. Both of mine are pet quality and weigh 3 lbs and 4 lbs (and adorable!).

As LongEaredLions suggested, we always encourage our members to adopt, rather than buy from stores or breeders, but we understand that our furbabies come from all over.

We don’t exactly allow discussions of breeding per se, but your question isn’t about that exactly, so I would suggest you could get a very good idea of breed standards by looking them up on the American Rabbit Breeders Association website. They probably have set sizes, and possibly photos.

Once you get a mixed breed, it’s a guess. My Mini Rex, Spockie, who was mixed, ended up being 8lbs at his max. weight. Usually you can expect 5-6 lbs. in a mixed Mini Rex.They make lovely pets.

If you do get your bun from the breeder, ask about its diet, because some breeders feed for different purposes and you may need to change it. Check out our bunny info. section for good tips on setting up your habitat and stocking up on the best basics for bunny.
