Hello, my rabbit Alfie had his back teeth cut down two weeks ago.. When he eats hay or grass you can hear the back teeth grinding? Is this a good thing as the teeth are grinding themselves down?

        Any help would be brilliant
        Thank you.

I honestly don’t know…I never hear this with my rabbit.

I would say though that if your rabbit is having his teeth trimmed due to misalignment then this procedure may be on-going.

Yeah if you need their teeth filed from misalignment it is something that needs to be done regularly.

However I read somewhere that some bunnies do that as it is like “talking while eating” something ti is like muttering to themselves.

The key part of this is how loud it is and if they look like in pain. When eating hay my rabbit has been always somewhat loud.

So when he eats does it look like it is a struggle or more like nomnonomnom gulp gulp?

              No it’s not misalignment..
it’s because he is my first rabbit and I didn’t know hay was so important to keep their teeth down so I was feeding him greens and pellets which wasn’t grinding his teeth down.. The vet told me what to feed him to keep them down so that’s why I’m only giving him little pellets so he’s hungry for he’s hay.. That’s why I wanted to know if grinding of the teeth while eating hay is good oh no he’s not in pain
              Thanks for your help

Bunnies should have access to unlimited hay, greens twice a day.

If an adult pelts should be used sparingly unless the vet said different for yours.

Has the Vet checked for misalignment? Bunnies can hide pain very well. Otherwise I guess he’s just a noisy hay eater!

I posted this in the other thread, seems a bit normal to me (I think it is what she is doing when eating hay)

You can hear her teeth moving when she tries to find a new piece so I do not think she has anything in her mouth.
