I think this is a dumb question but idk. I just got my first rabbit to day his name is Larry  not sure what breed he is and he’s about 10 months old. I was just wondering what normal bunny poop looks like.

I’m thinking you must have something going on if you’re asking. I would like to add ( and this seems to be my area of interest, though I’m no expert) if there’s a reason you’re asking, please write more. If you’re having problems with soft, flattened, stinky sticky ones that’s something you’ll want to address. Certainly, small and dry is a problem too. I know more about the other icky kind

It’s probably just the stress that is causing him to have dark poop. I would see if it changes in a few days.

Also, the stinky, sticky kind are actually normal, and called Cecals. Get ready, because you will probably see your bunny eat them! This is on purpose, and good for them. They are nature’s way of allowing bunnies to survive in the wild and not starve. They are actually digested nutrients, the bunny poops them out, then eats them to stay healthy. Some of you may have noticed that these stinky poos have disappeared since you saw them last – that’s why.

My bunny, Sammykins, is a dainty lady who only poops her cecals under her basket so she eats them privately. I get a whiff, then it’s over.

Mushy soft poos, like diarrhea, are different and can indicate a problem, or a difficulty with food.

P.S. No questions are dumb, and someone aptly described normal poos as Cocoa Puffs.

I have seen him eat cecotropes right from his bum. I’m just concerned since his poops are regretting dark and kind of small. I feed him green leave lettuce and dandelion greens for his veggies. He hasn’t been eating pellets or much hay. I don’t think he likes the hay rack. At the shelter he just had a small pile of hay on the floor. How do I get him to eat his hay? And should ib bee feeding him different veggies? Thanks so much for your help I really appreciate it!

The messier the better. Those nice, neat wire hay racks are a waste of money INMO. Besides, with the amount of hay they’re expected to eat, they don’t hold a lot and I find my bunnies prefer to poke around for just the right strand to munch. Can you just add it to the litter pan, if there is one? Or people often put it in paper towel tubes or Kleenex boxes. Long Eared Lions had some fun things on her Toytorrials. I’ve been eager to try the hay rings, but life is too busy at the moment.

People vary in how much variety they give their rabbits, but I think it’s advised to give 5 or 6 kinds or more each day. I give lots of dandelions this time of year with the lettuce, but I like to add a bit of Kale or cilantro. Then there are the bits of carrots, peppers… There are lists with the House Rabbit Society rating the veggies on what they can have a lot or a little of. And there are a lot of ideas like raspberry leaves. Apple branches with leaves are a huge favorite. Bam has a huge supply of trees to get branches from. I believe it takes her 9 trees to keep 2rabbits happy. I have to pilfer from neighborhood trees when no one’s looking. Clover will be coming out son. I probably give too much of that. And mint. Lots of fun freebies in the summer. I live in fear of picking something contaminated with parasites or something, but hope rinsing them and not picking down into the dirt is keeping things safe because I take a weird sense of pleasure in foraging for my pets in summer.

Ok cool thanks so much for the help I can’t thank you enough. The hay rack I found was actually free, it’s a shelf this I think. So I just thought whatever lets try it. I just can’t thank you guys enough a thank you!

Also, perhaps try different types of hay to see what he likes best. Lack of the correct amount of hay in the diet can also cause abnormal poos.

He hasn’t pooped in a while around a whole day and night but he has had cecotropes and eaten a lot more than normal (I finally found out how to get him to eat hay) and I fed h I’m dandelion greens mint parsley and green leaf lettuce today hoping the parsley will get things moving.

Most rabbits will eat their hay in different ways. Walter likes it when I put his in his hay ball so he can roll it to get it out. My other buns liked it when I just put the hay in their litter boxes and on the floor. It depends on your bun’s personality! Also if you are really concerned about his poop take him to the vet. The vet can tell you exactly what is wrong and what you can do about it! God put vets on Earth to save our four legged family!

Oh dear! Has his “plumbing” started working yet? Sounds scary if he hasn’t gone in that long

Oh dear, that is a bit worrisome. Have you taken him to the vet for a well-bunny check up yet? I think I would do that and talk to the vet about your concerns.

Great news!!, he peed twice during floor time (on my floor lol) and I found a good amount of poop in his box this morning!!! (he isn’t potty trained since at the shelter he didn’t have a litter box but he is doing very well and using most of the time) I think his poop is just naturally small because he is acting normal and the darkness I believe was from stress because it is lightening up also we are going to get him a vet checkup ASAP but it’s a holiday today so we have to schedule an appointment tomorrow thank you sosososososososososo much!!!
