Velvet was spayed Feb 2013 at about 3 yo. She seemed as light as a bird before that, but, I just noticed, as I was putting her on my lap, she’s gained about twice what she was. She used to be like less than 3 #’s. Now? Wow!

Is weight gain after spaying normal? I know it is in cats.

Pepper has definitely put on some chunk since she was spayed at the end of last year. We have been cutting her treats down and making sure she isn’t getting too much pellets . When she lays relaxed and stretched out her sides look quite round we call her chubby bunny

Velvet looks that way all the time, see avatar in corner, the Cat is 17#’s and Velvet was < 3. Yeah, cutting down now too, the dehydrated pineapple, and banana slices I make, are being counted at 4 pieces a day .[period]

Velvet sure is friendlier when she’s jones’n for some dried fruit. lol

Pellets………..hmmmmmm, never realized they were fattening. She always gets around 4 leaves of romaine lettuce a day too! Which is going to get cut down too. She just doesn’t know it yet.

Pellets are fattening and they should be limited.

She also needs a wider variety of greens. I would not cut down on what you are giving her, in fact I would give her a wider variety and more greens.

What is the amount of pellets you are now giving her? That should be the very smallest amount of her diet.

Spaying isn’t really the cause of the weight gain, it’s usually that rabbits feel out by about a year and many times it is an improper diet.

Interesting. I used to feed Wal-Marts pellets with all the “special” different colored treats in it, for young rabbits, but, at age 2 or so she was dropping more cecals than was eaten. Gets your attention pretty quick, cause they STINK! lol

Switched to Oxbow “Adult” pellets, She eats about a cup to a cup and a half every couple weeks. Well, I’ll keep the greens up then, and start adding others too! Thanks.

I notice if I cut back on greens the pellets get eaten faster.
