Are the panels on exercise pens removable? I’m getting a rabbit soon and have narrowed down cage ideas to a XL dog crate or an x pen. I would like to get an exercise pen because they look easier to clean, but would I be able to remove panels so that I only use 6 instead of 8?

Yes, absolutely! I have removed about 3 panels and changed where the door was located on the ex-pen for my dogs. The only thing is that they do not easily come apart, nor are they super easy to put back together. They also might be a bit less stable depending on your configuration. Mine is against a wall, with the two ends not coming together, so I had to zip tie them to eye hooks that I put in the wall. If you make it into a pen where both ends meet you won’t have this sort of problem though.

We are planning to remove some panels out of one (we are attaching 3 x-pens but don’t need all the panels from the 3rd). We had planned on just reattaching using zip ties but if the metal will bend back closed we would do that instead.

Yes, they definitely do bend back just fine. It is more that I know there are some pens that have pins instead of the little clamps, and the pins make it super easy to change up the size of the cage, no tools needed.

They are removable but as stated, not very easily put back on.

I have two xpens combined in a 4×8 foot rectangle, so I’m only “using” 12 out of the 16 panels. What I did, rather than removing panels, is just overlap the extra 4 in the back and ziptie them together. They’re up against the wall and don’t bother anything. Plus, if I wanted/needed to reconfigure, both pens are still intact.

You all say they are removable, but how do you do it? I have 5 x-pens here, I’m trying to remove two piece of one to connect to another somewhere else. (I’m using these pens all around my balcony so that my bunbun don’t fall) but I need to remove pieces of the ones on my back balcony to add to the one on the front balcony but I can’t find a way to un clip these little black clip/thing. Please help?

Hi @theMangobun , this is a very old thread, so you may not  to get many responses. It would be best to start a new thread with your question if that ends up being the case. Unlike other forums, we generally ask members not to reply to old threads to avoid confusion, but will keep this open as it’s a fairly straightforward question.

Sometimes you have to perform “surgery” depending on how the exercise pen was made. The panels aren’t necessarily meant to come apart. But if they are attached at the joints, you can usually cut the thing that is holding them together.
