Hi. I’m a new rabbit owner and SO paranoid about my little bunners. She was spayed on Monday and I was told she would monitor her own activity level and limits. Well, by Wednesday evening she was very perky and biting at her ex pen walls. what I intended to be a very limited ‘out of cage time’ turned into her leaping on to the couch before I knew it and her leaping back down. I quickly scooted her back to the x pen. She’s been a grumpy little meat loaf wanting out ever since but I’m terrified that she could have torn something internally. What are the danger signs I need to look for? Yesterday she was sprawled out on her belly and tonight she remains balled up and won’t lay down like she normally does. I immediately gave her a dose of metacam just to help her in case she hurt something. I’m so worried! I don’t think I’ll be letting her out tomorrow, but how many days do I need to wait if she’s already displaying this much activity? Since her leap she’s been eating and pooping but I haven’t seem her drink yet.

I restrict mine for 4-5 days with minimum space and some light ground level excercise on the 4th day. Hydration has always seemed a key point for recovery with my buns and I will syringe water in tint amounts if they are not drinking by the next day… However you can also hydrate them by feeding lots of fresh herbs especially basil, parsley and coriander well washed and slightly damp…
Look for irregular poops (small and dry or very mushy) they will be a little random at first but by day 3 should be starting to look more normal… Tooth grinding and hunching can indicate pain…. Being listless and floppy is a concern….
The leap may have strained the muscles a bit so that could be prolonging discomfort, also many vets like mine give a slow release pain medication, plus antibiotic and got motility med… The pain meds could be wearing off after the three day mark which means even with the metacam she will be feeling some of the discomfort… I would recommend you give your vet a quick call and just run through any concerns or if he thinks it is necessary to bring her back for a check over…. when all else is said and done the vet is your best go to source for information.

Can you pick her up without her kicking? just take a look. She may have pulled a little stitch or what Roberta said. it probably isn’t the end of the world if you see a little blood, as long as she isn’t actively bleeding. If she is bleeding you should give your vet a call (ask to talk to the doctor that knows rabbits, the receptionists may not know what to do) They will probably give the doctor a message and they will call you back.

She’s probably sore from the leap. But id keep her confined for a couple more days again. She can’t limit herself because she’s on pain meds so she doesn’t know her true limits. N

To check the incisions avoid picking her up. What I did was I hit record on my phone and raised a treat above her head so she would stand on her hind legs so I can get a peak. I recorded it so I can go and review the video more closely just in case I missed something lol
