My rabbits have stopped using their litter boxes completely and are favoring the area just outside the litter box instead. I was thinking maybe a shallower litter box they don’t have to hop as much to get in might help? Any suggestions on what would be a good one? Right now I have resorted to saran wrap over their rug to prevent having to scrub it 50 times a day.

I definitely think that is worth a try – maybe cut the front portion out of their current litter box to allow them to hop into…I have a friend who did that with her senior rabbit and it seems to work pretty well for her.

Powder is getting up there in years – at best estimate right now he is 7. Just cutting an entryway worked?

It does seem to work for her to get in and out – she is about 13 years old and I’m not entirely certain she uses the litter box 100% of the time although she can seen lying half in and half out of the litter box :~)

I do wonder if Powder may have some mobility issues at his age like arthritis – cutting a space out of the litter box could help him get in and out if that is what the problem is.

It’s possible. He hasn’t ever liked to jump much since we’ve had him – but he still does zoomies/binkies and such, no signs of pain I can see. Might be a little uncomfortable to jump around though.

Just a thought-what litter do you use?
